Hello, I've been completely bald for almost a year now and although I've become used to going out in public with no hair I hate the way people stare at me or treat me differently and I just want to look normal again. When my hair first came out I brought a wig from a salon, its nice but it's not secure and I'm anxious wearing it out and about, that cost me around £300 and is short unlike my real hair. I've been looking into getting a properly fitted wig like a freedomwig but they're just so expensive! I'm currently working as a nanny, trying to save money to study and saving up to buy a wig seems impossible. Does anyone know of any sort of financial help we an get towards the cost of a wig. I've tried the nhs and they offered me a choice of around 10 wigs at the local hospital, all were completely unnatural looking and were stored in what seemed to be a fancy dress box. I'm pretty sure this is a massive stab in the dark but any information would be great.

Hello Kate

I know this is difficult. It makes me cross when someone like yourself is looking for support and there is very little available. I see that you are in the UK. I think the best thing to do is to contact Sue Renigan (Freedom IA in Oxford) and talk to her about options for payments.

The NHS may help, there have been a few Freedom Wigs that have been paid for over the years, but it would mean a lot of work for you and your family to get them to understand your needs around this.

There is also the Little Princess Charity that may help. You could also try the Variety Club, they are very helpful for many special needs for their reciepients around the world.

If you would like to contact me and chat about this feel free to message me with your email.

Hope this helps.
