I don't have much grey, but the grey hairs do not fall out. Wierd, I know.
Yes, alopecia only affects pigmented hair. It's really strange, isn't it. Makes us all wish for a full head of grey hair!
Did anyone ever experience color change in their hair from the alopecia?
I have. My hair is coming in black and grey (and my natural color is dark blonde). Strange. Also, it is thicker and coarser, altogether horrible! If it all comes in I don't know what I'll have to do to it to make it look nice. The wig is looking better and better!!

Several years have passed since this post but yes, my hair went from salt and pepper to just salt in three months. Over that period all colored body hair and major spots on head were lost.........except grey. Kinda wish i have no grey at all before AA started. I've been led to believe spots on head are treatable w/injections but would come back pepper which complicates things more. Can anyone confirm?

Does AA affect people with white hair? I know that in some cases AA hair initially regrows as white hair. Just wondering if people with white hair are immune to AA.
According to my dermatologist for some reason the mechanism that causes alopecia doesn't go after the grey hairs. They don't know why yet. Your grey hair should be safe. I just wish I had more grey hair. LOL Thought I would never say that.
interesting
