My daughter dyed her hair and she has alopecia areata. My hairdresser did it for her. It did not seem to have any effect on it. No more fell out because of it. She's only done it once because after she lost all of her hair, it came back in a different color. It was really dull and ashy and had no shine. You could ask your hairdresser, but it was okay for her.
I'm using Loreal Castings Creme Gloss (ammonia-free). It doesn't burn or itch and smells fruity. It does colour darker than it says on the box, i.e. for a light brown I am using a dark blond. I haven't noticed it affecting my patches at all, but when I have a new patch that is hidden, I usually avoid colouring it, just in case. The Loreal leaves my hair healthy and shiny too.
thanks for the info..I ended up using natural instincts ammonia free ...think that's the name...but my hair looks a bit shinier(for what hair i have! ) I hear you on trying to avoid the coloring. I don't want to lose anymore hair !!! I'm so scared but I guess things could be worse.
Hi Linda,
I've heard of that product, too. Ultimately, I believe the alopecia is an internal thing, and think that by colouring my hair and feeling better about myself, that I will actually help my body get more into balance again. I should have been more clear earlier, but it's only the area directly on the bald scalp that I do not colour, and the few hairs around it. the other parts are a go! Cheers.
The transplant involves removing the follicular units from the sides and back of the head (where the follicles remain for life) and then implant them on top of the head. So it is left to suffer from baldness. A solidarity campaign, sponsored by a canary team of dermatologists, offers patients with scarring on the scalp the possibility of undergoing a hair transplant for free.
It depends upon the quality and the brand of hair color you use. If applied hair colors which are of cheap quality it will surely make your hair to fall. Use high quality hair colors which are trusted (branded) . But before applying do look at the reviews about that. Loreal is a good hair color which is branded and trusted. You can apply that.
Having the same hair color day in and day out is kind of like eating the same thing for breakfast everyday: It's comforting, yes, but also kind of boring. But major change might not be in the cards for everyone. Take this quiz to find out what kind of hair color changes might be right for you!
I did not dye my hair, but instead used a hair extension.

It's great !!
Personally for me dyeing very damage my hair. Periodically I use henna but only until it is washed out after a few weeks. It give me color what I want like red brown or burgundy http://hairstylezz.com/best-maroon-hair-color-shades/ Plus henna makes my hair much more manageable and silky
Many people facing same problem like you're facing. I've also faced some sort of problems. But to be honest, I use clarifying shampoo besides regular shampoo for these kinds of problem. Now I recovered from using clarifying shampoo for my color treated hair. You also can try. BTW, you must consult with a hair specialist/doctor, who will guide you as well before taking or trying new product, shampoo or conditioner.
