My daughter was diagnosed at 20 months with AU. She had NO hair growth, anywhere. Now at 3 1/2, she has eyelashes, eyebrows, peach fuzz on her face/ears, but more interestingly hair growth on her head. It is a combo of dark/light/white hair. Its very patchy with her cute little bald head showing thru. I am curious if this is common??? She has had her eyelashes/brows for a while now, but the hair on her head started this summer and seems to be continuing. We expect that it will all fall out, but we are very interested in knowing if this is something we can expect to happen thru out her life??

I am 25 and I have AU. When I was around 3 or 4 I was completely bald...my hair started to grow in and by the time I was about 5 or 6 I had a full head of hair. But when I was 7 it started to fall out again, in patches. The only hair that remained after that was a big patch of hair on the crown of my head, after about 7 years that patch fell out and I've been completely bald since. I didn't start losing my eyebrows until I was 15, they grew in when I was 16 then they fell out again when I was around 20 that's also when my eyelashes fell out. Since then my eyebrows are the only hair that keep coming in and out every couple of months. I have peach fuzz on my head and face, it seems to be the only hair that likes to stick around!
What's going on with your daughter sounds pretty common to me. She is so cute!
I hope I was able to help you out. If you have any more questions feel free to ask me!
Thank you SO much for the info! our journey with this is just beginning and although I know that everyone is different, I like to learn how Alopecia affects others. The more we can know the better prepared I feel. Taryn is pretty unfazed by the hair growth. Honestly, I would rather her stay bald, than grow hair and go thru the heartache of loosing it when she is old enough to understand it better. We have family/friends that are SO excited, thinking that she is going to grow all of her hair back and everything will be ok, but my husband and I are trying to curve them from putting thoughts/hopes into her head. All she knows and accepts is bald. I've not ever heard of Alopecia being "cured", so putting false hopes out there is something I would rather avoid. Thank you again for you help!
