Hi Everyone,

I was just wanting to know if anyone has done some form of treatment that has worked, and their hair has not fallen out again after treatment. I have gradually been losing my hair over the past 10-15 years. I am very fine on top and going bald down the middle.

I have been told many different things and dont really know what my diagnosis is.
I have been told its both alopecia & female pattern baldness.

I was once prescribed monoxidil orally & topically and my hair grew back a litte on my head but I was starting to look like a wolf with the body hair and it all fell out after I stopped using minoxidil.

I was then advised I had been on the wrong contraceptive pill and the pill I was using had high levels of testosterone. My trichologist put me on Femaren and may make me use Dianne 33 if Femaren does not work, well it hasn't worked and I am not sure of its worth the effort anymore.

I am seriously considering shaving my hair off and going for a freedom wig?

I would like to know if anyone has had a successfule treatment they would recommend.

Cheers
Caroline

There are different treatments that work for different people. There is not a proven treatment that works for everyone. Consult with your Dr. for good options. My daughter was on sulfasalazine with good hair growth coming in but we just decided to discontinue the drug due to side effects. You need to weigh your options carefully.

Hello My daughter was using this kind. What side effects are you talking about. Thanks.

Often the poster gives the answer to the question they pose, in their post.
I personally like the way you have weighed things up and have come to "nearly there" resolution. freedom!
Yes I think I have nearly gotten my answer. I have to say I was feeling pretty low about my hair but after coming across Alopecia World I am starting to feel alot better. Its great to see people being open about their issues so its hard to feel sorry for myself knowing so many people are going through the same thing.

I may just keep whats left of my hair for now and settle for a lace wig first and see how I go with that then move to the freedom wig if need be.
I can tell you I am in the process of new hair and so far so good. It has only been about six months since the first sign of regrowth, but I have a head full of hair and its hard for me to even believe myself but its really there and still growing in strong !! I take a hair skin and nail vitamin every day and use a shampoo and scalp treatment called nioxin and it really seems to have helped. you can take a look at my pics and see for yourself if you like. I hope this helps you out and have a wonderfull day :)
Thanks Becky. Its greatly appreciated. God luck and hope the treatment keeps going well for you.
Have a great day too.

Hello Becky,

What kind of hair, skin, nails vitamins you are taking? I am on Biotin 5000 mcg, but do not have any result. I tried the Nioxin system as well, but my scalp is very itchy. Sometimes is tingling, stinging, painful and even cannot comb what is left from my hair. This is being going on for 6 m already and I've lost 70% of my hair for such short period of time. Did you have any of these symptoms ? Thank you!

Hello Ann, I have been taking pharmassure hair, skin and nails that you can buy at rite aid. I had the same stinging when my hair first started falling out but it stopped when all my hair was gone. It had all fallen out within 4 months. Also when I first used Nioxin it was when my hair was in the process of falling out. It would sting my scalp really bad so I didn't use it because that kinda worried me but I started using it again when I saw tiny white hairs and it did not sting anymore but it still tingles. I really hope this helps you in knowing that the possibility for hair to grow back is always there. I know its only hair but when mine was gone I felt like a part of me was gone too.

I tried 2 types of lotions, which worked, but once I stopped what ever grew in fell out. Then the pills didn't work for me too. My uncle who had AA took the injections for a few months and it worked for him. I started out loosing all my hair 5 years ago, and the past 3 years I haven't bin taking any type of medication for it and most of my hair grew back. Right now I'm using a shampoo called Klorane with B vitamins (bin using it for the past 6 months. I heard B vitamins were good for hair and nails) and a bone comb (for about 2 years)... and right now I only have one bald spot on the back of my head. This has bin working for me :)

I was considering shaving my head too, but decided to keep the hair I have left and wait for the new hair to come back.   Everyone keeps telling me it will grow back even the Doctor.  I miss my hair I really want it back.  Sorry if I am not at the acceptance point yet.  I am really trying.  I am getting the shots and taking Biotin and a prescription creame my doctor gave me, so hopefully it will start growing back soon.  If not then I will have to accept it and go on with my life.  To answer your questions the last time this happened I had the shots and the hair grew back.

Great news on the regrowth. Keep us posted.
