Just feeling down because I feel like society looks down upon people with alopecia and don't give us the proper respect, love, and appreciation we rightfully deserve just because we lost one part of us doesn't mean you can always put us down and make us feel guilty for something that's out of our control any thoughts anyone on this topic.

Hang in there..nobody can make you feel disrespect and put you down..but YOURSELF. attitude is everything. I beat myself up over AU for several years...when I accepted it and decided I was going to be happy and healthy and am fortunate compared to many others..it got easier for me. I will never like it, but I am going to be ok. So will YOU!

Thanks you for your words of encouragement you've really helped me look at things more positively About having to deal with alopecia because its not easy sometimes when you have people that Don't understand because their not going through the same thing or they just haven't took the time To do there research on what alopecia is so they can be more aware about it.

Gavin, I think some people looking at those with alopecia are actually dealing with the fear of their own vulnerability.  This is a very unpredictable disease, and anyone can get it at anytime.  "Feeling" disrespected?  You ARE being disrespected, and unless you are a robot, you cannot program your feelings not to feel that way. However, try to keep those feelings in check by viewing their lack of acceptance as their deficiency--not yours.  While I am very sympathetic towards cancer patients, I really cannot understand the attention  and sympathy that is given to their hair loss issue.  Their hair loss is very temporary.  Our hair loss is often not so temporary.  So I get tired of hearing, "Oh well, at least it's not life threatening".  If our condition is no big deal (as they imply), it is puzzling to me that they reject us and disrespect us for it.  Again, you are not the one with the problem--they are, and I would not hesitate to let them know that.

totally agree with you our hair loss is so unpredictable we may never have hair agian AU sucks i hate being this way

people do make it seem like its our problem like we said we wanted something like this to happen to us when none of us deserve to live like this everyday and night hoping one day they come out with a cure to end hairloss for good so we have to never worry about it again or what our appearance looks like but also i think it really comes down to just finding your identity through
having alopecia because they have wigs and lace front wigs for men and women and you can also get your eyebrows tattooed or buy eyebrows from www.headcovers.com and www.eyebrowz.com
