I was taking Doxycycline through the months of late October to Late December. After I got a haircut on December 12th, I noticed that I had two bald patches (it isn t actually bald, they were just super thin with a little bit of hair). I got a haircut again today, February 14th, and the same problem occurred. I m almost positive the problem is Alopecia Areata, and I also have the symptom of nail dystrophy (it appeared around 2 weeks ago). Do you think doxycycline caused this issue, how can AA be treated, and how long should I expect for my bald splotches to have normal thickness again?

I don't think Doxy caused your hair loss.  I have been taking Doxy for just about a year now.  Reason: another Auto immune causing blistering of the skin. Awful. I have AU and have for  many years. No Doxy involved.  Stress is our biggest enemy.

As you mention in your post you are taking Doxycycline i want to tell you basic side effect of this medicine are-nausea,rash and signs of an allergic reaction (hives, difficult breathing, swelling in your face or throat) or a severe skin reaction (fever, sore throat, burning in your eyes, skin pain, red or purple skin rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling).

From my point of view you have to consult with an hair expert who will tell you exact reason after diagnosis of your scalp condition.

And now come to the point of Alopecia-

Alopecia is an autoimmune disease in which hair follicles start destroy automatically  or can say that are damaged by a misguided immune system.Local steroid injections intracutaneously may be very helpful in restarting the hair growth cycle in treated areas.

But for permanent solution hair transplant is the best option and for more details you can read this blog-Best Hair Transplant in Ahmedabad
