My 4 year old has been battling balding (from total loss to now very thin and patchy). How did you definitely know it was alopecia? My dr. said he thought telagen effluvium. But I am going back tomorrow for a derm referral. What questions should I be asking?

I think a biopsy would definitely give you a better idea of what it is. If blood tests come back normal, than that would cancel out hair loss due to a vitamin deficiency, or any other underlying health condition...I was diagnosed with AGA based on my testosterone count, as well as just an overall evaluation of the hair loss. I plan on having a scalp biopsy, just because I want a 100% accurate reason. Hope this helps:)
when i got a bald patch on the back of my head
let me know when you find out..Im going thru the same with my 4yr old daughter....
Well, diagnosis is made. Alopecia Areata, but with her incredibly thin and fine hair, it looks pretty bad right now. We go see a pediatric dermatologist, but since there is no cure I am unsure of what they can offer me right now. This "session" seems to have stopped. But I do notice hers more when she is sick. Is that true for anyone else?
