Hello AW,

I just found another inspiring article entitled: I lost my hair... then grew it back with an iron-rich COCKLE diet by Alison Smith Squire. If you want to see photos of this woman's amazing hair restoration, you can google the title of the article and see the photos.

Article: When mother-of-three Mary Corrigan began losing her hair, she was naturally devastated. The 43-year-old was so embarrassed about her bald patches that she wouldn’t go out without a hat.

Yet despite visits to her GP and a trichologist, she was told there was no cure. So the housewife, a former chef with a background in nutrition, decided to find her own solution. And after lengthy research, she came up with a ‘grow-your-hair-back diet’ – featuring iron-rich fare such as cockles, venison and leafy green vegetables.

Within four months of adopting it, her hair had not only grown back, but was thicker and stronger. Her GP is so impressed with the results that she passes on Mrs Corrigan’s details to others.

How many members were blood tested when suffering from alopecia?

How many of you returned normal readings?

How many of you were were deficient in iron, magnesium, zinc etc?

The ones of you which were deficient - did supplements help?

Has a study or survey been done on this?

I had blood test done and I do have an iron deficiency. Iron supplement didn't work. However , I didn't continue them as I should. Any advice.

I saw this article too. The only thing that came back as low in my blood test was iron ferritin. I didn't really pay attention to the possible connection with my hair loss, I am AU now, until I read this article. I decided to try my hardest to get my iron up and 3 months later I started to get tiny white hairs growing back, not many but something. It has been another 3 months since then and there are not a lot of hairs there but more are popping up. It is a very slow process for me but a hairdresser told me that it will take as long to grow hair back as it took to fall out. It took a year for my hair to completely fall out from when I saw the first patch but I am sure it was happening at least 6 months before then as I did notice my hair getting thinner. I have a long wait ahead but at least the growth I have at the moment shows that regrowth is possible. I do believe there is a reason for alopecia, everything happens for a reason, it's just a matter of finding it. But maybe in some cases modern medicine just hasn't found the answer yet. I should also add that My Dr prescribed iron supplements which I do believe has helped me to get my iron level up, but I am also very conscious now to make sure that my diet includes iron too. Debbie.
