I have alopecia areata - how do I know if I'll lose all of my hair?

I found 3 round bald spots about a month ago
They are all different sizes
My hair is still pretty much as thick as it normally was
I went to the doctor and he promised I would not lose all my hair
because I don't have alopeci totalis or anything
he didnt run any tests but he seemed completely sure..
he is known as a bad doctor though and i've read bad reviews on the internet of how he misdiagnosed people...so im still worried....
did anyone have these symptoms and end up losing all of their hair?
or am i just going to have acouple bald spots????

Hello Louise,

I second Aimee's reply, especially when she said the only predictable thing about alopecia is unpredictable. I cannot promise or say that you will not develop alopecia totalis neither do I want flush all your hope away of not developing one. There is a list of easily treatable diseases that might cause hairloss, therefore I strongly believe that a doctor should rule out all the other possibilities before ruling in alopecia areata.

Alopecia areata is different for everyone. Some develop only a few spots that grow back and thats all, some continuously have spots appear as soon as another grows in, still other aa develops into at and au. Alopecia is unpredictable and I agree with Aimee your doctor should not have promised something like that. I also think your doctor should have ran some test to check for other possibilities.

The best advice i have is not to worry about it and please stay away from stress. Simple to say, let me tell you i think i got to AU becuase i use to take lot of tension over simple matter. Stay away from friend, work,family or any person who you think is the cause of stress.
