So I have had the Ophiasis pattern for almost a year now and my entire back of my head is gone and now above my ears is falling out. I have been getting cortisone shots and I have had little regrowth. Now for my questions.

1. Can this Ophiasis pattern spread to my eyebrows, eyelashes, or facial hair?

2. Should I keep getting shots?

3. Anybody else dealing with this also?

Hello....I also have the same type of alopecia.  I have a group you can join, it is on AW.  The nape of my neck is totally bare, and up around my ears as well.  The rest is just plain overall thinning.  My eyebrows are sparse,  I don't know what may happen to your facial hair.  Shots, I have never gone that route.  I really don't think they would have helped.  But I guess everyone is different.  If you don't notice any improvement, it seems really a waste of time/money.

Do you think your hair thinning because of stress? And I have actually had regrowth. In the picture it shows the hair
Oh yeah and how long have you had it for?

Hello Lexi, what is AW?

Dear Matthew,

My name is Kat and I've been on here for a little over 4 years. I have to admit I've never heard of Ophiasis pattern but it is interesting. I've always had the spots version of AA. I'm not sure about the spreading to the eye brows or facial hair but I do know that the AA version can spread. Until now I've only had hair loss on my head, now in the past 3 months, I've started loosing my nose hair.......  THATS a WEIRD one, lol.

I go see a dermatologist for the first time in April. I know I don't really have  any solid answers but wanted to say hello, welcome and we are glad you are here. Hang in there and we are thinking of you....   : )

Matthew,

I started with AA many many years ago. Until about a year and a half ago, shots always worked for me. As I grew older, it would take more time to be effective. In the last year, my hair developed into that pattern as well. My dermatologist told me it is very hard to get under control at that point.  I continued with shots and even tried an acid solution. After that, I decided I was done with treatment for a while.  Now, I have lost most of my hair, my eyebrows, eyelashes, arm hair, and leg hair.  I don't know if it would have made a difference if I would have continued with the shots.  What does your dermatologist say?  I have decided to put it in God's hands! It is very difficult to deal with on an emotional level but I'm getting to a good place. I have mostly good days mixed with a few bad!

Best wishes to you! I hope your treatment will be more effective than mine!

Hi I actually lost patches of arm hair before I developed Ophiasis. All my arm hair grew back and now they are pretty hairy. I've had a little bit of regrowth in one spot. I hope it doesn't spread to my eyebrows.
