I'm sure I'll remind a lot of you vets of the days you were trying to figure this all out. But one thing that is really perplexing to me is the question of whether or not someone with an autoimmune disease should be trying to support their immune system. Convential med says no, holistic yes. My daughter is a former micro-preemie and has been through so much already. For the past 10 months we have given her probiotics as well as an immune support supplement. She developed alopecia 5 months ago and I stopped the immune supplement but not the probiotics as it only just dawned on me that that is also immune support. We also gave her 5 weeks of high doses of vitamin E (which got her talking!) but could that have been a problem with regard to her immune system? She's also been on very high doses of Prevacid for 3 years, since she left the NICU, and I know that interferes with absorption of nutrients. I've had her zinc levels tested, and I'm thinking of checking B12 next visit. Anyway, I'd love to hear what you all have to say about this investigative path. I can accept her alopecia, but I need to make sure I'm not giving her anything I shouldn't. Thanks so much to anyone who can respond to this inquiry.
