I'm 61 and just got my 1st insect bites since my alopecia universalis onset a year ago… and I can honestly say that I never reacted to bites like this pre-alopecia. It's quite possible that I was bitten by a rare variety of mite or a spider with a nasty sense of humor, but I'm wondering if these humongous welts and extreme itch might be due to the bites in conjunction with the alopecia. Makes sense to me since the disease causes an inflammation of the epidermis, and the subsequent bite exacerbates the inflammation. Maybe someone else can weigh in on this hypothesis.
