Is there anyone in the same situation as me?

Hi everyone! I'm trying to see if there are a lot of people with the same situation as me when it comes to AA. In may I found my first huge patch and since then I have been on the Internet researching this disease. It seems as if AA is quite common but usually people have one or two patches and that's it. I started out with one patch and now my whole head is covered with patches. My dermatologist says I have extensive AA. When I read about extensive AA it seems as if people with extensive AA has had AA since they were young, have another kind of autoimmune disease, have family history, etc...In my case my first patch was at 30, my blood work came back perfect, I have no known family member that has ever dealt with AA(no one in my family knew this existed)...So basically I'm asking if there are people that have gotten AA later in life, no family history, and no other autoimmune conditions.

Hi Mel. I had my fist bout with this wonderful condition when I was 50. Never even heard of it before that. No one in my family has ever had it either. Mine is diffuse, so basically my once long, thick, curly hair now looks like a 90-years-olds. My blood work was fine also, except that I was very anemic, which I have corrected, but unfortunately has not helped my hair. I have given-up trying to figure out what started it.

I am not sure if you meant by androgenetic alopecia or alopecia aereta. I have the former. I have no family history of this disease whatsoever, however, my siblings do have it.

We honestly have no idea why we all (my sisters and I) have it. I want to say hang in there and stay strong.

You sound exactly like me. In 3 months I have 6 bald spots out of nowhere.... They seem to grow overnight sometimes..

Click on my avatar (the face picture) on how I cured mine with biotin and iodine. Use kelp for iodine and get it to 100%.

Hi Mel!! I have AA & just like you I have no family history, no other auto immune disorders, & my labs all came back normal! Mine started a month ago when my brother noticed one spot on the top of my head about the size of a quarter, then another the same size on the top towards the back of my head, then another the size of a child's fist on my left side above my ear! Like you I have researched & became exhausted with the same info over & over! Since my diagnoses I developed more patches & my original patches just kept getting larger & larger by the day! Just decided to shave my head so I don't have to keep seeing it come out! I also just turned 30 when this all started happening.. I live fairly close to you also so if you ever need to talk to someone I am here! Just know you are not alone in this!

Hi Marla and Mel,

Your stories sound like mine. I found the first sport exactly 2 weeks after I turned 30! (in January this year) and all the blood tests are coming back normal. The GP said it was stress related?

I saw a Chinese Dr and he recommended some herbs to boil, then I found these supplements made by an Aussie company that pretty much has the same stuff in them! So I have started taking them and they seem to have helped - the original patch I found has some hair growth. My hair has continued to fall out but there are little hairs in their place. (I can let you know what the supplements are if you like)

I'm also going to see a trichologist before a seeing a dermatologist as I figure, after reading up on AA - I think I have an idea of what the dermo will say. 

You guys aren't alone - I'm here too... although i'm on the other side of the globe!

I got aa almost 2 years ago just before turning 50. I'm losing my eyebrows and lashes and have lost most of my body hair. I'm trying to keep my head hair though and haven't made the decision to shave it yet. Otherwise, I'm in good health, no history of aa in my family. Mine came almost a year after a major illness that had me taking a very strong antibiotic for about 20 weeks. Still not sure if that played a part.

I had my first patch this time last year at age 25. Since then I went completely bald and am now entering a regrowth phase. At first I was very scared a got every imaginable test, they all came back clean.
Alopecia is completely unpredictable it seems.

I was older 29 turning 30 going through a terrible divorce had a bunch of patches they all grew back full head of hair no family history of it and now almost 2 years later I found another small nickel size patch, how have you been doing?
