Hey. So I went to the doctor on the weekend. Just a usual walk in clinic thing I wanted to get medicine for. And then he started asking me about my hair randomly, like who was treating it. Why I am not getting treatments and all this.. He was very interested in it. And then he said he wanted to treat me and give me injections. So I have never done a thing to treat this before. I'm terrified of needles... If you have had injections can you tell me how it works and how it feels. Kenalog specifically how does it feel? What about the appointment.. Should I bring someone with me to drive or will I be fine afterwards?

Hi Erika:  My son has had Kenalog Injections.  I have to stress that it is important they be administered by a dermatologist who is trained to do so, not just a regular family physician.  My son said initially it is a little painful and it stings....and he had a bit of a headache afterwards, so yes I drove him home. These injections were very successful for him in treating a rather stubborn patch of AA. Basically, the doctor fills the needle with the Kenalog solution and injects the bald patch with several quick jabs of the needle. It is over rather quickly.

Hi there-  I had the injections without much luck, at the time i was seiing 2 different derms, one used regular needles and it hurt a little, the other used an "airgun shot" which i preferred since it was much quicker.  Each visit i was given approx 12-15 of these injections.  You certainly can drive yourself the precedure takes maybe 2 min with the airgun.  hope this he;ped.

I had the shots for many years, but it was long ago. I used to get histamine reactions at the injection sites and those were more painful than the shots themselves. Eventually, the shots did not work for me. I've been universalis for over 25 years now. Maybe things have improved with the treatments, but I doubt it.
