Has anyone has a positive outcome using Lattise? I have heard mixed reviews. I took my daughter to the derm today and she is not in favor of it due to the studies on it, but would allow us to try it if I choose. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, Cindy

Read the side affects and potential effects that are not reversible. It may help make your decision.
See my blog on this topic which provides original source links to FDA letters on the concerns. Growth can be uneven and directionally erratic. Risk of infection is always an issue. And there are many message boards where those using it are documenting the permanent darkening of the eyelid at the application site and other woes.

The studies to date show no positive results for the alopecia lashes. Though I'd like to add that Drs. Shapiro, McElwee et al made a specific point of mentioning the lack of progress and need for progress in eyelashes for our population in their comprehensive article published last month in the Journal of the AAD about alopecia areata treatment.

Personally, if I was a little girl with alopecia and my mother had done anything to permanently discolor even a tiny area of my eyelid I would not have been a happy camper.

I think there's always a lot to consider in making these decisions. The mother-daughter dynamic is critical for a life-long and beautiful communication with one's daughter. I grew up in a toxic parent situation and am thrilled to have the most beautiful relationship one could imagine with my own grown daughter. It's sacrosanct with me to do nothing that would erode that bond.

Hi I asked my dermatologist for lattise however he'd never heard of it, (im in the uk) he did however look up lumigan and said he was un willing to prescribe or recommend I use a treatment for glaucoma to grow lashes, fortunately the small patch of lashes I lost appear to be coming back of thei own accord anyway, also Iv read reports of lattise actually speeding up or causing lashes to fall out, hense I will be leavin well alone x
i've been using latisse for the past month on both my eyebrows and eyelashes. it has def. made my eyelashes grow thicker and fuller, but i will stop using it just because of the side effects it has on the eye. i'm going to use talika for my eyelashes instead (you can buy it from sephora) and just continue to use lastisse solely on the brows. i have noticed the bald spot in my brow start to grow and fill in slowly, so i'll continue to use it and hope for full regrowth. ::crossing fingers:: it depends where you're planning to use it, if it's just the brows i'd say it'll be ok, but for the eyes, you might be a bit more cautious, it causes permanent change in pigmentation of the iris. my eyes are naturally really dark brown/black anyway, so you can't notice a change, but for those with blue/hazel/green eyes, i'd probably opt not to use it.
Same reason for me. But I have very light blue eyes and do not want to risk iris pigmentation. What if I wasn't careful enough and got some in my eye? My opthalmologist argues against using it for that reason. It also permanently pigments the skin where it's applied. Do you see a darkening above the lash line? Darkening of the brow area? Hopefully no drips.

Lash growth with Latisse can be weird and unpredictable..disparities in length, thickness, direction of growth. Kind of like lashes gone wild! For some people it might grow them more evenly, but it's a crap shoot. Here's my link to some original documents from the FDA in the US about Latisse.

honestly, no matter how careful you are, some of it eventually drips into the eye. i apply latisse using a flat eyeliner brush and just drop the drops onto the brush, then carefully, dampen my eyelashes, but by the time i close my eyes, it flows into the outer corner of my eyes, then i wind up blinking, and into my eye it goes...that's why i've decided to not use it for my lashes anymore.

i haven't noticed darkening of the skin. it's kind of weird, i have alopecia on my brows, so the spots where i don't have eyebrow hair, it's just a kinda a white spot, so i haven't noticed that spot darken in any way, but it's only been about a month or so since i've been using it.

but w/ the unpredictability you mentioned, it is weird, my left lashes are longer than my right!!! it's not totally obvious, but i can notice it!
I used it and it worked at first but everything falls back out again and it made the outside of my eyes red and itchy most of the time.
I tried it, used the whole bottle with no success.

Sorry,

Joanne
My husband has glaucoma and takes prescription glaucoma medicine from which latisse is based on. He has had so much eyelash growth that I have to cut them about every three months. They are extremely thick and as mentioned in previous posts, very uneven. He has had groups of eyelashes get stuck in his tearducts that had to be removed by the opthalmologist. I have lost all my eyelashes in one eye due to alopecia but am not ready to try latisse since I haven't seen medical literature showing it works with alopecia. My concern doesn't have to do with discoloration, it has to do with the unknown side effects of using this drug for purpose that hasn't yet been proven.
