Hi!
I need some advices about wearing a wig/bandana for long flight. I'll be visiting my home in a month and I don't know if I should wear a wig or bandana. I'll be flying from NC to O'hare, O'hare to Narita(Tokyo) and Narita to my home city. As you can see it is such a long trip...plus two of my kids will be with me.
I want to wear a wig but I know I'll be very uncomfortable wearing it for such a long time. I want to be as comfortable as I can be during my trip.
It is my first time flying since I've been diagnosed with alopecia so I have no idea what to expect at the airpot.
Will they ask me to remove my wig or bandana?
Thank you, in advance, for our help!

I think it would depend on the type of wig you wear and your personal comfort which includes how you feel most comfortably presented (wig, bandana, nothing).
I travel extensively with my friend who wears Freedom Wigs....she doesn't have a problem with comfort, airprt security or anything else...but I would think that no matter what 'long hauls' are always uncomfortable, so make sure this decision is one that really suits you.
I hope you have a great trip home.

I go for comfort 100% and always wear scarfs. When I do wear a wig I have never had to take it off. Only in Thailand had they asked me to "peak" under my scarf, but that has been my only situation. They may do that with you but really everyone is very accepting! Wear a SCARF!! xxx
Go for comfort. I'm Canadian and live in Australia and worked abroad for 6 years, 2 of which I had to deal with Alopecia. Made the mistake on my first long haul of wearing a hat to cover my patchy head, only to have to remove it in airport security and felt AWFUL.
Now I wear my wig onto the plane, then once we're onboard and the seatbelt light is off, I head to the bathroom and take it off & put it into my travel pouch for it. Then i either rock a 'train conductor' style hat that covers my head or a terry cloth turban type head cover - anything cotton & soft.
I get really cold easily on planes so I'm always in a sweatshirt anyways - I put the hood up over my hat/turban and am cozy the whole flight.
Once the lights come on for the last meal, after I've eaten, I grab my wig from the overhead storage (where it's been placed on top and safe!) and put it back on for the end of the flight before disembarking.
Have never had an issue with my wig and airport security and have visited over 40 countries with it so far :)
Thank you everyone for great advices and I'm sorry I'm replying late.
After reading all the advices,I think I will wear wig and once I'm on a plane I'll wear a buff. I know I'm more confident when I'm wearing my wig, but I just can't imagine wearing it for such a long time.
I have a few more questions.
Are there any recommended website for buff/turban?
Thank you so much!
So yesterday I was researching all kinds of buff/turbans/scarv es and hats but couldn't find any. When I buy something I want to try it on first but as for online shopping it is hard. I'll be flying in a month and I was getting so frustrated with not finding something to wear instead of my wig, then my husband asked "Why not wear some of my hats?".
He has tons of hat/caps and luckily I was able to find this nice looking cap for my flight. I think I'll just wear the cap a whole time( no wig ) as it is so comfortable.
Now I know TSA won't ask you to remove your wig or scarf at the security, but my question is, will they ask me to remove my cap??? I tried his cap on and you can tell I don't have hair.
Are all buffs supposed to fit tight? When I wear something(buffs,scarves,turbans,hatscaps....etc), I want them to be a little bit lose. I have eczema and putting something on my head always make my scalp itches.
Buffs are lovely, very soft material, very stretchy and not tight on your scalp, I wear one to the gym and for going shopping and casual looks, my head is on the larger size of average and mine are all comfy. It wont be a problem for your eczema. Enjoy your flight. XX
