Gee just when you think you are getting used to this thing called Alopecia the eyebrows start to go.....YOu know that actually freaks me out more than the hair on the head. I am so used to my wigs now but the eyebrows starting to goooooooooo......

I didn't have much eyebrows to begin with. What did you guys do when you first started to lose eyebrows? Did you book an appointment with someone who knew what they were doing to help you draw on eyebrows? I was an over zealous plucker in my teenage years so not a heck of a lot grew back. That was fine with me. I never felt comfortable penciling in the eyebrows either. Now I am going to need to do something. What are you suggestions? I need eyebrows!

Hi Lori, I hated losing my eyebrows. When I first lost them I used to draw them on and I was always worried that I would wipe them off, plus it seemed like I could never draw them on were they would look uniform. I finally broke down and had them tattooed on. That was many years ago and the tatoo has faded over time. I now make them look darker with an eyebrow pencil. First I put on some powder foundation and then use the pencil - it seems to stay on better that way.

I have noticed some re-growth on the eyebrows and I'm not sure yet if I want to get them re-tatooed. I'm thinking I'll wait a while and see what happens.
i have had alopecia for 17 years. in the last 3-4 months, i lost my eyebrows! this is a first for me. i feel more "naked" now than ever before. i have been wearing a baseball cap for the last 15 years, and i find that, if i wear it "lower on my head", it seems to hide my lack of 'brows. the only problem i see with your situation, is you are a female, and people might find it strange that you wear a hat everyday! i am sorry i can't give you any advise, but we are all struggling with certain "issues" through this horrible learning experience called ALOPECIA!
Hi Lori, Check out the BGDL brow set (with powder, brush, and sealer). I use it every day and it won't come off until I wash it. Even during aerobics classes and being face down on a massage table they remain. There are various shades, too. Stephanie
Sorry to hear about your brows, Lori. I lost mine about 3 months after losing my hair, and it was really upsetting. I had very thick brows and always considered them my most distinctive feature. Because they were thick, I never wore brow makeup, so it was difficult to adjust to drawing them on every day. Then it would just come off when I was active.

When my brows started to go, I quickly decided to get tattoos (permanent makeup), began researching it, and had it done when I still had some sparse brow hairs to guide the artist. It's been two years, and though they've faded somewhat, they still provide me with some brow appearance when I'm swimming or first thing in the morning, and they make applying a little brow powder color very quick and easy. I brush on a little powder over the tattoo, top that with some of Bald Girls Do Lunch's liquid sealer, and I'm done in about a minute. I also had permanent eyeliner done, and don't wear false lashes.

There are lots of discussions on AW about different types of tattoos and about the pros and cons. For me, it's been the best choice because I wasn't used to spending time on makeup, and because I'm pretty active.

Good luck.
Mary
Hi Lori,

I lost my eyebrows a few months after losing all my head hair; shortly thereafter I lost all of my eyelashes. I was super nervous about having to draw in my eyebrows, but I got this kit: (http://anastasia.net/product.php?productid=16155&cat=249&pa...) from Sephora and it is fantastic. I have had it since October and it is totally worth the $40! They have eyebrow stencils to help you draw them in if you need, too. And they stay on pretty much all day and even through sweaty workouts. Once in awhile I will touch them up, but it's really easy. I got the hang of drawing them on after about 2 weeks. Good luck!

Hi Natalie, I'm wondering if u do anything got your eyelashes ?  I am actuallly sitting on the derm. Office waiting for
Mr first injections.  But I don't know if it'll work or of I even want to do this long term. Thanks
Hi Lori,

First, I get monthly injections in my brows which keeps the outline of them there for me- but still have gaps and sparse areas. For those, I use the anastasia brow powder, which is two tone - more realistic and a benefits brow brush. Then I put on SheLaq sealer on top. All this from Sephora. They last all day and look pretty good. If you find you need stencils, I have tried them all- and found them all sort of hard to work with, esp. b/c I have some brows left so finding a matching stencil was an ordeal. However, the best stencils I found were from Eyebrowz.com (something like that) they have a million.
Ohhhh dear.... see my problem is I don't have much eyebrows to begin with and stay away from penciling. To get tattooed eyebrows or penciling absolutely freaks me out. Have not noticeable eyebrows one day and then bam obvious ones the next day freaks me out. I am also afraid of caterpillars above my eyes if you know what I mean. I am afraid they will be all you do see on my face is these penciled eyebrows. The way my eyebrows are right now it would be better if they fell out completely because penciling them in now would look horrid.....Soooo freaked out.... I just want thin natural looking eyebrows.....
I had thick eyebrows but felt most of the stencils were huge- the eyebrowz were way better, thin and small. You cannot go w/o eyebrows I find I look crazy made up wtih barely there brows. Just do light strokes and dont try to fill in solid colors. I honestly think you will be suprised at what you can do with brows. I will tap a darker shade of brow powder over the lighter one and it looks like individual hairs.
Where do you buy the BGDL eyebrow stuff? I live in Canada....
Hi Lori,

We're working on website expansions for 2010 to include powder kits. For now, just drop us a line here;don't worry about indicating Canada, we'll recognize the province. Glad to provide all info to you about regular and travel sizes.

I lost my eyebrows just a couple of months after losing all my hair. That was hard for me because I still felt pretty good about how I looked without hair when I had my eyebrows but without them I felt more like Gollum from LOTR. What I eventually found which I LOVE are the glue-on eyebrows. I use Natural Brows which you can find easily online. These are very natural looking. I have been able to wear them for about a week at a time. Then I just peel them off for a night and glue them on again the next morning. This way I only have the "Gollum" look for about 12 hours each week! They also have the additional benefit of actually functioning as real eyebrows are supposed to .. keeping sweat from rolling down your forehead into your eyes!
