I'd like to recommend a short video on you tube.  Anyone with or without alopecia should view it.  It's titled "hair model with alopecial".  This says a lot about how far people will go to try and get their hair back. I know I've tried them all too.  Save yourself time, money and disappointment.  Just like loosing weight there is no magic pill, tonic, topical that works.  We have an auto immune disease and until that little switch inside us decides to right itself and stop attacking our hair follicles nothing we put on our head or in our bodies is going to grow hair.  Anyone who has had luck with a product would have grown hair with or without it.  These companies are preying on us because we are DESPERATE and they know it.  Put your money towards a good wig (if you're a woman), if your a man just rock the bald head, some women actually think it's sexy. I'm not trying to dash your hopes, I just hate to see any of us getting our hopes up and our wallets emptied only to be disappointed.  My best way of approaching this dilema is by just taking care of myself the best I can.  I try to eat right, exersize, take some vitamins and supplements and hope for the best.  So PLEASE stop looking for a magical solution, there isn't one, if there was there wouldn't be thousands of members on Alopecia World.  Thanks and Good Luck.

I have had AU for many years and would pretty much agree with you. Of course initially and for some time alopecia is a big shock that takes time, love and support to learn how to live with. After a lot of disappointment hoping for a physical cure, I began to focus on my work and then on self expression, singing, painting, writing and this was a huge help. It slowly helped me to value and treasure who I was within, so that the emphasis on physical appearance faded. I would recommend to anyone struggling with alopecia to focus on self expression as a way of building up self esteem and pleasure.
Having said all that - I did have a period of sticking to a strict non dairy non sugar, non gluten diet and had a lot of fluffy growth on my head and also eyebrows growing during that time.

I do think that in the next few years much more will be understood about auto immune illnesses.
