Need help with wigs for men
Hi I've had alopecia for 4 years now I lost half my hair when it first happened and regrew some of it. Right now I have about 75% coverage of hair and random spots missing throughout my head. My hair has also thinned out to about half of what it used to be. I usually wear a hat but I have to attend my best friends wedding in 3 weeks. I know I can't wear a hat there so I was hoping I could get some suggestions on what type of wig and where to purchase them. I've tried looking on several websites but it gets overwhelming with how many types there are. I'm hoping to purchase a wig of high quality so I can use it for other occasions. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you

Since you'll probably not be wearing it full time, and the fact that you still have hair (not a shaved head), I don't think you need to be as concerned about certain things.
Firstly, If you have a wig salon in your area, I suggest you visit it to acquaint yourself with options and ways to keep it on. Barring that ...
Check on salons that do sewn in or taped in "extensions". This can give you spot coverage. Or, if the spots are not too big, you might even feel comfortable using a powder coverage like Toppix.
If you purchase, you'll probably want a good synthetic hairpiece - unless you really want to spend the $$$ for human hair.
If you want full coverage / head of hair, you will probably just need a wig cap to cover your own hair and keep it in place. Toupee clips work really well, but can make an already sensitive aa scalp even more so.
There are some good looking guys wigs if you google. My final suggestion would be to get a wig with a style similar in color to yours and the style you wear your hair. This will minimize the stand out factor for those who know you.

hagster thanks for the advice is there a site you can recommend? I've been looking on google and when I look up a review for many websites I read lots of negative reviews one of them even said the wig came spray painted. Is there a list of approved vendors for this community? I have a wig shop near me but it didn't go too great when I visited they were kind of pushy to try on wigs which weren't even remotely close to my hair color and they weren't of high quality felt really cheap and plasticy. I yelped them after and saw negative reviews as well. Is it hard to find a reliable wig vendor?

The site I use has terrible reviews, but I've never had any problems. Just remember that online reviews are usually posted by unhappy buyers, not happy ones - which really skews the rating.
You lical wig shop should have explained that you have to try on what they have for fit and style, then they have to order one in the correct color. Of course they want to sell unsuspecting soles the existing stock so they're not stuck with it and can turn it over. I'm surprised your wig shop even had any mens wigs for you to try on.
The wig lady in my town is the only one and sets her own rules. You order thru her and you get great service. You walk in with a wig you purchased on the internet and service is nil. The last time I was in her shop to have some new wigs cut, I had made an appointment and she knew what I wanted. When I got there she refused to cut them.
Remember that if you order a wig, it may take quite a while (3 weeks or more) to receive.
I wish you lived close to me (KS) and I'd be able to help you more. Maybe you can search the member list here and contact someone who would be willing to personally help you buy a wig. If you have a American Cancer Society office in your town, maybe they can suggest a wig dealer or a cosmotologist who can work with wigs.

If you are willing to pay $300 to $400, Him by HairuWear, which makes a variety of wigs under various brands, had men's wigs that are sold on various sites, including wigs.com. They appear to be high quality and would likely require little cutting or styling that might be required if you bought a wig for women.
I buy wigs for women and cut them and thin them out myself, but buying a men's wig from Wigs.com might make the process easier for someone who has never purchased wigs.

thank you all for the replies I am going to check out another local wig shop that had better reviews on yelp this weekend. If that doesn't work out for me I will definitely contact hairuwear and chris for hair because the service sounds awesome that they would be willing to speak to me on skype. Lavonne - Have you personally purchased from that site? I question it as more than half of the styles shown are celeb shots or guys NOT wearing wigs. If they have the actual wig like the photo models hair, why not show it?
