Hello, everyone. I'm new to AW, but have been dealing with what has been a very painful journey for me for about 20 years. I have been diagnosed with female pattern baldness, and tried everything from vitamins, special shampoos, scalp stimulation, Rogaine (when it was still prescription only), and even shaved my head for a few years and just wore wigs.
Most of my friends dismissed my pain saying they never noticed, but my scalp shows from front to back in the sunshine. Sparse enough on top that I can count the hairs in a square centimeter.
Anyway, I teach high school and I'm aware that students talk about it, but until this year I've never had an "incident" with it. This year, I had a student (who was angry about getting in trouble) scream that I was bald headed and had mange. Left me in tears right in the middle of class.
Over the summer, I have investigated my options, and ended up at a salon that does Virtuesse. It's painfully expensive, and I wish I'd found this site before I committed to the almost $3000/yr price tag. The stylist assures me it will look natural and that I can swim, shower, play sports, and style it as though it were actually my own hair.
I'm curious if any of you have experience with Virtuesse--or have suggestions for what I can do next year...I'm 42 and am tired of being almost paralyzed with anxiety about it.
Any encouragement is also welcome!
