New to wigs

Hi. I've had alopecia areata since I was in the second grade. At that time I had lost about 50% of my hair. My mother tried everything to get it to grow back and the only thing that worked at the time was a healthy diet and vitamins. It helped me grow the majority of my hair back and I spent The past decade or so with just small spots underneath my super curly hair so it wasn't very noticeable. Then I had two children, and I think that my hormonal changes with a lot of stress and family issues, I have now lost about 75% of my hair. I have never been one to wear a wig. I always like the natural look, and the bald spots never really bothered me very much. But now since I have lost so much hair, I am now starting to where wigs. Can anybody give me any advice for other options to make us? I wear a lot of bandannas and very wide headbands to cover the majority while I'm at home in order to feel comfortable. But I was wondering if anybody knows of any other options other than wigs, bandannas, Scarves and wide headbands. Wigs are so uncomfortable, and I'm looking for alternative options to cover my head. Any advice is much appreciated!

This site that you mentioned is great Aimee. You have loads of good ideas and I would love to see pictures. I just"friended" you and meant to include a message and ask for your favourite head covering or should I say head enhancing ideas. Thank you,

Would you be interested in trying caps or hats? Since it's the  winter time when everyone is wearing hats anyways because of the cold it's a good time to try it out. I also wear wigs but don't find it so comfortable so I tried lots of different kinds of head coverings and found some real good ones that are stylish and extremely comfortable. You'd be surprised how many kinds of head coverings there are out there today. I found the chenille snood extremely comfortable and beautiful (especially because it comes with a lining so it gives volume) and the pre-tied bandana (which is like a bandana except it's made of soft cotton and provides full coverage) is also extremely comfortable and comes in different styles and colors. You should give it a shot- just in case you find comfort in them; it's really worth your while!! I got mine at www.myheadcoverings.com - they're a great site you should check them out! Good luck!

What type of wig have you tried?  The more money that you spend on a wig, the more comfortable it will be.  If you find a good quality wig, it shouldn't be that uncomfortable.  I usually spend around $100 on each one of mine, and they are all good quality.  It does take some time to get used to it, but most of us do get used to it.
