Hi everyone,

Okay, so I live in a small Town in NJ,USA. We don't have any Alopecia universities here. The closest one is in Pennsylvania,PA. So I'm kind of stuck with only a few derms to choose from. My doctor now, I've been going to for 2 years, maybe more on and off. During this time we had one period of regrowth. I went from complete AU to a thick set of eyebrows, a real mustache, a 4 inch goatee, and patches of strong hairs in groups on my head and even Nostril hair. This only happened once and I dont know if it was the treatments ( Cortisone injections, Olux-E foam, and Rogaine) or just me

Now, its time for the negative. Today, I have thin eyebrows and a thin mustache. My doctor doesn't seem to be keeping up with alopecia research. He didn't know what Xenjalz was. I later heard about Sadbe and I printed out the research results from the Pennsylvania research. He said " oh yea, this is top notch stuff. we don't carry this here. You'd probably have to go to this place or give them a call." He seems to only want to stick with the shots and steriod creams. I feel like I'm his only alopecia patient but i stay because it worked that 1 one time for 8 months and again for 3 months without any headhair. If you guys think I should leave, how can i tell a good doctor from the get go and know if they have the right stuff like SADBE or DCPC or anything else really good ahead of time. If i should stay, tell me why?

I've had a few people say i should stay but what do you guys think?

Hi Dj

I would definitely give it a shot and change dermatologists.

A lot of these so called professionals are not up to date with modern science and have most of their knowledge from  the 1970's. He was right to give you steroid shots that has at least a decent chance of working.

I would be careful with DCP that stuff burned a hole in my arm (the 2% solution test) it went right through my skin could even see bone. I now have this permanent burn mark on my arm which will never go away.

When looking for places to start DCP I came across this crack pot doctor who recommend to put the 2% solution all over the head and work down from there instead of starting at 0.001% and moving up. If I did that I may not have had a scalp anymore.

All the best

Did you have to have a biopsy? The steroid strong cream turned my daughters scalp dark.

Yes, I had a biopsy done awhile ago. It came back and said I had Androgenic Alopecia. Which makes no sense to me because it appears I have AU. Im  not to sure wow accurate those test are. I dont really believe it.
