Possible alopecia triggers?

So I have had Alopecia Universalis for almost 9 years now, and I had no substantial signs of alopecia before that. I was talking with a graduate classmate; she has fibromyalgia. She mentioned to me that her fibromyalgia and other autoimmune disorders didn't appear until after a bout of mono. I then remembered that roughly a year before my hair started falling out that I had a form of mono as well. I was wondering if any of you noticed, or can now think of, a possible alopecia trigger? Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Three years ago, I had a horrific case of mono.  Horrible sore throat for 2 weeks and a fever for a little less then a month.  Since then, my thyroid is borderline and I have been diagnosed with Alopecia Totalis.  I believe that my immune system is still in overdrive due to the Epstein Barr virus.  My blood tests still show an elevated Epstein Barr level, but no active virus.  Without a doubt, I totally attribute this onset of Alopecia to the mono virus.  I have not been able to find studies to support this however.

My 10 year old daughter was diagnosed with mono in Nov 2017. In March of 2018 she lost her eye lashes and in June we noticed her hair was thinning. By September she was all but bald. Our naturopath made the connection between mono and alopecia. She described it as triggering her immune system. Mono can be have long lasting effects on people.
