Hi, I'm 18, I have AA, and after four years of wearing a wig, I'm finally going without. Bald pride! Anyways, as I want to maintain a totally smooth, bald head, I must shave pretty darn often (almost every day). I've only been doing this for less than a week, but I'm worried that constantly shaving my head will give me irritated or dry skin. I bought some moisturizer from Lush to use after I shave, but I'm not sure what else I could do. Do any of you frequent head shavers use any products or have any special methods for keeping your bald head happy? Tell us about your process!

Wow, more power to you! I don't have any advice, I just wanted to say how brave you are. I am 53, have AU and am constantly figuring out ways to hide the baldness. I've been able to regrow most of it, but am well aware that it could all go away tomorrow. I hope I can come to accept things like you have someday.
Thanks, Jean! I've had AA since I was 1 or 2, so to me, it's just always been what I've looked like. I wore a wig throughout high school, but ever since I "came out" last week, I've felt so free. Everyone's journey through alopecia is different. Just know that you're beautiful, girl!
That's what my family keeps telling me.
Keep up with the positive attitude. You are truly an inspiration!
Congrats on the decision to shave. I felt so free the day I started going bald. I have been shaving since September 7, 2010. Everyone's skin is different, so it will be best to try different routines and stick with what best works for you. I use the shed head, shave cream, and clear head head blade products. I also like there head creams. They have two one for a shine and one for a matte look. I also use some of the sensitive skin men's shaving cream products (Schick and Edge) as you have to order most of the head blade products. The majority of the time I use Eucerin lotion as this was recommended by my dermatologists. The best routine for my head care is to shave every two days.
My dermatologists always gets on me for not using sunscreen on a daily basis. Eucerin has a lotion that is 15% that does not leave my head looking white. I have yet to find a sunscreen of 30% that does not have it's problems. They either have my head looking white or burn my eyes. I never knew how much my head could sweat until I started going bald. Good luck finding the routine and products that work best for you.
Thank you! I went to the HeadBlade website, and those look like really great products! I've seen those head razor things that look like little lawn mowers in videos before, I'm glad I know where I can get one now. As far as razors go, I've been using a men's Gillette. The first time I went to shave my head, I was planning on using one of my regular pink disposables until my mum stopped me. Lol! Probably for the best. I hate using sunscreen, which is terrible, because I live in Arizona. It's sunny as heck out, and I should probably start wearing sunscreen before my poor noggin gets burnt under my bandanas. Thanks for sharing!
Walgreens drug store carries some of the HeadBlade products. You can also find them on Amazon.com. I tired the razor and the first shave was great. It was the closest, smoothest shave I ever had. The next time I nicked myself about four times. After that, I let it go. I can use a 3-blade or a 5-blade razor. A 4-blade razor cuts my head up every time. The shape of the head has a factor, so take that into consideration when trying out different razors.
I agree with your mother about the cheap razors. They did not work for me. Schick works best for me. I will admit with a coupon I will use different brands. Shaving every two days gets expensive. Again, good luck finding the products that work best for you.
Hey Sheila, I use shea butter on my head. Shea Butter is a natural sunscreen. all you need is a dab.
Fantastic. I will definitely try this and get some today.
