Growing up every now and then I would have little patches of hair missing that would grow back within months-year. In June 2015 i got a little bald patch on my chin and this very slowly spread all over my beard in months. i didn't do anything about it and hoped it would grow back for a while. Months later I did end up going to see a dermatologist who started injecting steroids? Into my face. I had 2 treatments and on the second I realised a few eyelashes missing, the dr said we cant do anything about that right now but let's focus on the beard. Over the Christmas holidays i realised my eyebrows, more lashes started falling out and a few days before christmas i had multiple patches on tbe back of my head. Within one month I lost most of the hair on the back of my head, the front, sides and after using hair fibres for about a month I was given no choice but to shave my head. I started taking Hairpo and Hair Nails Skin vitamins. When I went back to dermatologist he said it was too wodespread to do injections and i started taking them in tablet form (Panafcort) He also told me not to bother with vitamins because they wont work. Although I continue to take them. My GP also prescribed Antam? Which is a cream I put on my face eye brows and head daily. Im very hopeful that my hair wil come back, i'm finding it hard to adjust being bald and my eyebrows thinning day by day and nearly no top eyelashes. Has anyone had something similar hapen and if so what other methods or medication were used to have hair grow back?

Sorry to hear you are having this problem . All I can say is there is nothing to make your hair grow back. There are some experimental drugs being investigated by some of this sites users but there is alot of downside to their use. Your doc is correct about vitamins. They will do nothing to make your hair grow back. About the only thing you can do is accept the hairloss for the time being and await the results of some of the break through treatments (2-4 years away) or buy a custom lace wig which if made well can be 100% undetectable.

Thanks for your reply, so you say that there no chance of regrowth whatsoever? Once it's gone, it's gone for good? I see some videos online of people who have had regrowth so I know it's definitley possible. Also the the vitamins have worked for people i know with thinning hair so I know they help a little. But yeah not sure as you say whether they will make the hair come back.

remission happens randomly for a lot of people. There are countless people here who have tales of going years without hair then one day growing it all back for a period then having it fall out again later.

The follicles are still alive with cases of Alopecia Areata so it's never "gone for good" but whether your disease will go into remission is somewhat of a grey area

Yeah , sorry if my 1st response is negative. It is true that remission does occur however sadly when this condition takes a grip it is a generally speaking a new phenomenon in your DNA that generally will re-occur for life. Meaning you will experience good times and bad times with hair-loss. I have had it since I was 10 years old. I have had almost 100% regrowth about 5 times lasting no more than 4 months at a time. Presently 40% hair loss. I have found that there is great relief in present day lace hair systems (wigs) and I thank the gods that I have never had loss of eye brows/lashes and my beard is generally unaffected leaving me being able to sell the ILLUSION of being generally unaffected by this condition.

I am not connected commercially to hair systems but have a look at this example of a fullcap hair system.

I had one of these made for me and I have is styled ala tony stark ironman 1 slicked back and nobody has ever thought is was not my hair haha .

I lost some of beard area and one side of eyebrow (30%)lost last year June. Also I found one bold patch back of head on May27 2015. I lost 70% of all my hair until December. I started to getting steriod shot and used Rogain 2 times a day since December 7th 2015.
Also taking biotin 2 pills a day.
I'm getting a shot once a month now.
I'm trying to be positive but hate to wear hat for 7 months...
However, my hair grow back almost 70% now and I only had steroid shot 3 times.
Do not lose hope! I know hair will grow back some point but I'm trying to get hair as fast as possible.
Hope my story help you ~

in general, losing eyebrows/lashes is considered a bad sign.

This is what most doctors say.nHair may grow again but it is a more severe case

and chances of spontaneous growth are slim.

Also havin areata for more than a year is also a sign of severe systematic failure in immune system.

I guess that you have the OPHIASIS pattern in your head (losing from the back of your head) and this also has a poor prognosis.

Anyway, patience, patience, patience.

there is a long way to go.

Thanks for all your opinions and stories. I'm 31 and this all happened within a month rapidly. The beard went gradually over a year but the head hair, some eyelashes and some of the eyebrows all went within a month. Doctor says it could be stress ofcourse, i did stress a lot last year so this could probably be the repercussions of that. I guess I will just try different things and see what works and what doesn't. Thank you all again!

Something that has worked for me on multiple occasions is a medication called prednisolone. I know a lot of people on here are opposed to it (for good reason) as the side effects for some people can be quite serious. Prednisolone is an Immunouppressant meaning that while you're on the medication your immune system is almost completely down. AA is an autoimmune disorder so a suppressed immune system means a temporary "blockage" of AA. My experience with pridnosolone has been nothing but positive: I'm currently taking it for the second time in two years (doctors will never prescribe it long term as it can cause serious, lasting problems) and both times I have had almost full regrowth on my hair, eyebrows, beard, and eyelashes. During both times I never experienced any negative side effects and despite what my dermatologist told me I didn't get sick once. The only problem with it is that it is most definitely a temporary fix which is something you have to keep in mind before asking your dermatologist about it. Almost as soon as you come off the medication (obviously this will differ from person to person) you are vulnerable to another attack of AA. So keep it in mind and ask your dermatologist about prednisolone.

Thanks Jack! I will look into it!
Getinformation Bibby is WRONG. My hair and countless others, has grown back using Xeljanz. It sounds like you have Alopecia Universalis, like me, where I lost ALL OF MY BODY HAIR. You can read my discussion called "From Totally Bald to Regrowth in One Month" and see all of my regrowth pictures for the last 7 months. Below are a few pictures from NO HAIR to now. Also check out the Number One Discussion on this forum about Xeljanz (Tofacticinib Citrate) by Alopecia Destroyed My Life. His thread has lots of people on it, including himself, that have grown their hair back using Xeljanz without any serious side effects.

No side effects yet!

There comes a day (with all these drugs like prednisone) that the Doctor looks at the blood work, how you are feeling and decides to taper......stop it.

Dom... lol sorry but how ignorant u are is just funny.
I worked for 10 years in the pharmaceutical industry. Some people have been on biologics drugs for more than 15 years without adverse events.
For ur info a biologic drug is an immunosupressant. Example humira enbrel remicade etc... seriously when u don't know what u r talking about...
