Sorry to hear you are having this problem . All I can say is there is nothing to make your hair grow back. There are some experimental drugs being investigated by some of this sites users but there is alot of downside to their use. Your doc is correct about vitamins. They will do nothing to make your hair grow back. About the only thing you can do is accept the hairloss for the time being and await the results of some of the break through treatments (2-4 years away) or buy a custom lace wig which if made well can be 100% undetectable.
remission happens randomly for a lot of people. There are countless people here who have tales of going years without hair then one day growing it all back for a period then having it fall out again later.
The follicles are still alive with cases of Alopecia Areata so it's never "gone for good" but whether your disease will go into remission is somewhat of a grey area
Yeah , sorry if my 1st response is negative. It is true that remission does occur however sadly when this condition takes a grip it is a generally speaking a new phenomenon in your DNA that generally will re-occur for life. Meaning you will experience good times and bad times with hair-loss. I have had it since I was 10 years old. I have had almost 100% regrowth about 5 times lasting no more than 4 months at a time. Presently 40% hair loss. I have found that there is great relief in present day lace hair systems (wigs) and I thank the gods that I have never had loss of eye brows/lashes and my beard is generally unaffected leaving me being able to sell the ILLUSION of being generally unaffected by this condition.
I am not connected commercially to hair systems but have a look at this example of a fullcap hair system.
I had one of these made for me and I have is styled ala tony stark ironman 1 slicked back and nobody has ever thought is was not my hair haha .
in general, losing eyebrows/lashes is considered a bad sign.
This is what most doctors say.nHair may grow again but it is a more severe case
and chances of spontaneous growth are slim.
Also havin areata for more than a year is also a sign of severe systematic failure in immune system.
I guess that you have the OPHIASIS pattern in your head (losing from the back of your head) and this also has a poor prognosis.
Anyway, patience, patience, patience.
there is a long way to go.
Something that has worked for me on multiple occasions is a medication called prednisolone. I know a lot of people on here are opposed to it (for good reason) as the side effects for some people can be quite serious. Prednisolone is an Immunouppressant meaning that while you're on the medication your immune system is almost completely down. AA is an autoimmune disorder so a suppressed immune system means a temporary "blockage" of AA. My experience with pridnosolone has been nothing but positive: I'm currently taking it for the second time in two years (doctors will never prescribe it long term as it can cause serious, lasting problems) and both times I have had almost full regrowth on my hair, eyebrows, beard, and eyelashes. During both times I never experienced any negative side effects and despite what my dermatologist told me I didn't get sick once. The only problem with it is that it is most definitely a temporary fix which is something you have to keep in mind before asking your dermatologist about it. Almost as soon as you come off the medication (obviously this will differ from person to person) you are vulnerable to another attack of AA. So keep it in mind and ask your dermatologist about prednisolone.
No side effects yet!
There comes a day (with all these drugs like prednisone) that the Doctor looks at the blood work, how you are feeling and decides to taper......stop it.
