Hi I'm 25 and 4 months ago found a bald patch on the lower right side of my head after going to the docs they confirmed it was alopecia but luckily i have really long hair which has managed to hide it so just carried on like i usually would, since then nothing else has happened (no regrowth but no more hair loss) until this past week. I noticed my hair was starting to come out really quickly i dont even have to touch it half the time and its on the floor, over the last 4 days ive noticed my hairline at the front is really thinning and i guess receding on either side to the point now were there is very little hair there, Again at this point if i wear my hair down you cant really tell but i can no longer wear it up as its really noticeable.  Does this mean theres a chance i could lose all my hair? has this happened to anybody else. I'm really nervous and confused i have the docs on thursday but i know that there is no "fix" for this, i just really wondered if anybody experienced anything similar and if so what happened?

Thanks

jess

Jess I have a different type of alopecia to you but for all of us we need a definate diagnosis to know what type of alopecia we have, a dermatologist will be able to tell you what alopecia you have then you can look at your specific treatment options. There are lots of support groups for us in the UK, which is where I live and in the USA. Get your diagnosis then you can join some if the groups on this site for your type of alopecia and other folk can give you more detailed help.

Overall though I would say it's a terrible shock having any type of hair loss so make sure you eat well, do some exercise and be very gentle on yourself.

Good luck.
When my daughter was first diagonised we blame her jake and the pirates shampoo. It's hard to accept it's some out of your control. It depends on the type you have but you could lose all your hair but don't panic. You're beautiful no matter what. Scarf in the hair and turbans are all the rage now. Plus with wigs you an change you color, style and length without the commitment. Everything is going to be fine.
