I'm experiencing unprecedented regrowth, and want to hear about your similar experiences. I have had AU for almost 4 years now, first onset being in my mid-thirties. Possibly there was a link between my stressful job and the hair loss -- I've been away from that situation now for almost a full 3 years. I've been using turmeric (golden paste - supposedly good for anti-inflammation) in the past few months and that's all I've been doing differently than normal. I have tried about everything for varying periods of time over the last few years!
I now have patches of thick, dark hair coming in all over my head, (not connected...yet?) and I'm growing eyelashes and a bit of body hair here and there. I know from reading, not to be too optimistic or get attached, as it comes and goes. But this is something I haven't seen before, and it's all coming in at once.
What are your experiences with regrowth and AU?

My AU started in my 20's by showing up as little spots on the scalp. Within a year, I was completely hairless. Five years later, my entire head of hair had grown back, yet my eyebrows, lashes, and body hair were still MIA. This lasted a good four or five years of having long, thick hair again. Then, instead of falling out in patches again, my hairline began to suddenly recede (male pattern style). I shaved it all off and it hasn't come back since. It's been 12 years since I had hair. It's cruel to have it, lost it, have it again, and lose it again, but this is the nature of the hairless beast. All in all, I'm cool with the situation.
What a fascinating thread/read. I have AU since age 3. At age 13 (menstrual cycle starts) I got regrowth in one area. AND my eyelashes grew in. Eyelashes stayed. Head hair did not. At age 53 (menopause), I had hair grow back on the "fringe" of my head. But only baby like hair. Nothing like adult hair.
Hormones could be the reason for my changes... but additionally, I did start a new routine of taking pro-biotics and digestive enzymes.
For prebiotics and probiotics I use Thera-Lac. expensive but excellent quality.
Enzymes: I use Dr. Wongs Essentials Zymessence (these are more than just digestive enzymes.)
Had to laugh about your under arm hair comment; me too! I have to shave their!! What the heck??? Oh, forgot to mention, I did have pubic hair for several years. It fell out on ONE SIDE. Some guru told me about our body meridians. One side of your body is supposed to represent issues with your mother; the other with your father. who know??!!!
so happy for your regrowth, whatever the cause may be.
That's awesome. I'm happy turmeric is helping you heal. I have AA (but have had AU and AT) and experienced regrowth 3 years ago by making a complete life style change coupled with an amazing detox. No more partying and eating fast food. Here is a link to the detox- http://www.healingalopeciaareata.com/
I also began listening to healing meditations- http://www.themeditationpodcast.com/
I have had almost complete regrowth for the last 3 years, developing bald spots when eating organic, whole foods is not possible.
Here is a post from my facebook this morning-
My first bald spot appeared when I was four years old. I've spent the last 23 years learning how to live with Alopeica Areata, an auto-immune disease caused by inflammation of the gut resulting in hair loss. Three years ago I was awakened to the reality of our food industry. I went on a month long detox, a difficult journey I completed with the support of my best friend and sister, Melanie Eddinger. By the end of it I had nearly a full head of hair- something I hadn't experience in over a decade. I'm sharing this with you all today because switching to organic has improved my life in countless ways and I know it can do the same for so many others. Unfortunately, Monsanto and their lobbyist are trying their damnedest to keep this message from being heard. This election is about more than a political revolution- it's about all of us coming together and saying ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Stop poisoning our food. Stop stealing our wages. Stop blinding us with entertainment and report what matters- like illnesses that can be cured by eating what our ancestors taught us to grow. Bernie Sanders gives me hope. Happy Friday ya'll!

I had about 80% regrowth a few years ago with mostly dark hair.I still had a few patches so I went back to shaving after about a year of cosmetically treating it. X Fusion hair fibers.
I just recently let my hair grow for about a week and a half. I didn't notice any patches just kind of thin all over and mostly white hair. I'm going to let the hair grow out again and use a combo of white, auburn and blond X Fusion and see how it goes from there...
My AU was connected to Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Once my medication was straightened out, my hair did start to regrow. My body hair comes and goes, but for the most part, the hair on my head has stayed, with the exception of a bald spot cropping up here and there. I had wonderfully thick hair, but now it is thin. Fortunately, my stylist has been able to camouflage them pretty well.
I hope you continue to regrow a full head of hair!!
Hi Molly,
How is your regrowth coming along ?
