Hey. Wondering if anyone experiences a sensitive scalp just before you start to lose large amounts of hair. I've had my hair fall out twice and each time just before it starts to fall out I notice my scalp gets sensitive. It feels almost like there is a bruise in a certain area, then that spot (in the past) has developed into a bald spot.

Over the past 3 months or so my hair has started to grow back in patches. Yesterday I noticed a sensitive spot along the edge of one of my bald patches. I have a feeling that means the hair is getting ready to fall out again.

Thanks!

I would usually get a tingling feeling sort of like the chills. After the hair falls out then comes the itchiness.
Have you tried any treatments for AA. I started in March and is getting worse. tried some injections prednisone-not sure what to do I am devistated this has changed my whole life.
Yep, I've had cortizone injections and I've used a cortizone scalp solution. I've had alopecia since I was 32, 10 years. The hair use to grow back completely after treatment but over time it stopped. I have bald spots that haven't grown back in over 5 years. It definitely changes your life, I wear a hat all the time now and I usually don't go to any function where a hat is not permitted. When my grandmother passed away I had to go to her funeral so I had no choice but to shave my head. That's why I joined this place so I can talk to other people who can relate.
Hey Amy... I always hate the dreaded " super sensitive scalp feeling or ichy/ tingly feeling"...same thing happens to be before i get a patch or lose a lot of hair from a certain area.... Sometimes the area hurts when i touch it or apply any pressure to it.... At least its a little warning ..i figure?..... kinda of a waning.. because it gives you a little time to "brace yourself" for the traumatic hair loss...The feeling is annoying tho, just because its a "constant" reminder.
Yes, this process was actually very painful at times (as if losing your hair isn't bad enough). I read somewhere, maybe here, that pure aloe helps. I really didn't try too hard to find that, but i did buy some Vaseline lotion that had aloe & it actually helped a lot.
