Semi-permanent wigs

I am currently looking at purchasing a semi-permanent lace wig. It will be bonded to my scalp and must be maintained monthly. I have eczema, besides the alopecia - lucky me :) I am wondering how hot this wig will be. I chose this option as the synthetic wigs were very warm and I became tired of having to run and put my wig on my head everytime someone came to the door. I am hoping this gives me more freedom as I like to swim and am fairly active, but cannot go in public bald due to the fact that I'm a school teacher and do not want my students to see me bald for fear they may think I have cancer.

Any advice would be wonderful.

PS - Yes, I know that bald is beautiful and I should not be ashamed, but it gets really tiring having to explain my alopecia to everyone I meet on a daily basis. We live in a very small, ultra conservative community. My daughter's friends stopped coming over for sleep overs because her bald mommy freaked them out - true story. So yes, I have to do the wig thing for now until I get emotionally stronger to handle this.

Hello. I am also in the same boat. Although I am only 20, I feel the same kind of feelings. Not many people know/can tell that I wear a wig, so yes it is a big annoyance to keep running to put it on. I also have a problem with the wig stretching out. As of right now I only wear synethetic wigs. Human hair is a little out of my price range at the moment. Since summer is quickly approaching, I am looking for something that I can wear on my head that can get wet. Synthetic wigs get frizzy and even melt when they get hot and wet. So I'm not thinking that's a good idea. I also am very sensitive to what people say/think/look at me. I know I need to get over that, but it's been really difficult for me. So if you find any information, please pass it along!

Hi there,

I started out wearing human hair systems that were bonded to my scalp. I was able to do it for about 2 years and after that my skin started having major reactions to the glue, even the glue for the sensitive skin and I couldn't do it anymore. I was itching all the time and it was pulling out the hair in the piece. I'm now purchasing a vacuum piece so I can wear it without having to worry about it falling off, I can swim in it and I don't have to pay the monthly servicing costs I was paying when I was doing the bonding. It is a lot more money up front but in the long run because of how long they last and the quality of the hair, I think I'm going to be very happy. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. I have checked out a lot of wigs and have explored a lot of places.

Hi, I am interested in your vacuum piece.  I have never heard of that.  I have been bald now for

I would not bond it to my head personally. I have a very good human hair wig and I don't even tape it anymore.I wouldn't like to sleep in the wig either, its uncomfortable and it'll wear faster. Its nice to take it off and put on my bandana at night.
Everyone is different though, I guess it would be nice to not put it on and off all the time but I'm sure the maintenance is expensive.

Hi,

I was a member of Hair Club for Kids for 2 years, and they bond the hair to your head.I had to go to Hair Club every 4-6 weeks to get a touch up on my hair. Honestly if i was financially stable to be a member of Hair Club again i would I loved my hairstylist and the customer service was wonderful. Some people do frown upon the idea of having hair bonded to their head but for me personally it made me more comfortable around my peers becasue no one knew that the hair on my head wasnt "mine", until i told them. I believe that you would be comfortable with it just make sure you are good with the upkeep or it will smell like susan stated...just weigh your options..but this is a very good one in my opinion
