I wanted to add a comment to this thread after looking at the Shampoo link that was provided in one of the recent posts here (and also the number of comments left about Head & Shoulders).

While I agree that it's not right to finger point and say that any specific product 'caused' AA I do think that we unknowingly dump lots of chemicals upon ourselves without realizing it and question how smart that is.

My daughter (recently diagnosed with AA) does NOT use Head & Shoulders but I do. I took a look at various shampoo bottles in our home, including many kids varieties after reading one of the AA sites about a compound people complained about. The website I read said that many vendors use a detergent called 'Sodium Laureth Sulfate' in their products. What do you think is the ingredient at the top of the list after Water in a number of the shampoos I looked at?

Given the number of people here who seem to not like Head & Shoulders, I begin to question whether or not certain people could be more sensitive to specific chemicals and if it isn't in fact a good idea to try and find something that isn't as harsh. Another good point is that we also sleep on pillows and sheets washed in detergents and chemicals. I wonder if anyone has managed to do any research on whether cutting these things out while attemting to do AA treatements has shown any higher rate of success. All in all, I wouldn't be surprised to find that if in fact people are hyper-sensitive to chemicals like this it may not cause AA but could interfere with its treatment.

- pls take what I say with a grain of salt. I'm very new to AA but certainly want to hear from others here and learn from their own experiences. All the best.
Thank you for that information Ken...After all the changes I've made in my life to try and cure myself ,I've come to the conclusion that one's genetics can't be changed. I think alopecia is genetic. Although things may agravate the condition,I don't think they cause it.
I hope your daughter is coping ok.
You've come to right site for support. The people here are awesome...
