So I had a Titanium Implant on 6/1/12 and now...
on 7/1/ 12I am told I have Alopecia Areata...
It started days after having a titnium dental implant on 6/1/12 .
I told the oral surgeon, their comment 'bizare'.
I told my regular doctor, his advice ,blood work negative,, take rogaine.
I told my dentist, theri response 'no comment'
I saw a dermatoligist , their advise, topical steroids or injections, no thanks.
I have lost a good amount of hair on the back of my head and on the side. At the moment I can comb it over.
What is troubling is that my mother had a terrible blood auto-immune disorder that started at around my age. I wonder if this is just the start.
I have a call into my oral surgeron, to inquire if I can get the implant removed.

If you had anesthesia of any kind it can cause TE - your hair falls out but is suppose to come back - unless you are unlucky like me and it becomes chronic TE. Ask the derm to do a biopsy to see exactly what type of hair loss you have.

there are some sites on the internet that claim titamium is the cause... then these sites link you to sites that cell ceramic implants.
If I had known this I would have gone with a bridge and not an implant just to play it safe.
Somone suggested getting my derm to do a biopsy.. sounds like a good idea.

I doubt it has anything to do with the implant! It was likely already beginning you just didn't notice. I passed it off before I took it serious, and then quickly realized how far it had gone

I really hope that's the answer.
I noticed a very slight thining back there about a month before the implant but chalked it up to normal balding.
It started in the back of my head. People did tell me something was up but I blew them off thinking it was natural. Then it started on the side of my head

First of all - thanks for the support and listening.
You would be surprised at the number of friends and family took it as an opportunity to poke a little fun.I built a timeline to show events before the 6/1/12 implant date which was pointed me to the implant.
On my 7/11/12 haircut - after the hair cut- it was pointed out that I had a least 4 patches. I thought I had just the one in the back. Shocker.
A number of people said it was because I was vegan or it due to stress.
For the vegan haters this was an 'aha told you so moment'
I have been vegan for a couple of years .
My life this year was very goal driven.
My 8/17 blood work came back fine ; no iron definciencies or thyroid problems'I'm going to double check with the person who cuts my hair;

7/3/2012 anyone notice yes people noticed!
6/30/2012 models - hat for game signs reported

please keep posting about this implant you had put in. I had the same procedure and I have to say my 2007 autoimmune disease got worse after it and I developed AU in 2011 and someone else mentioned this implant as a possible issue as well I am VERY curious to what you find out
I would consider removing it as well if I believed it would really make a difference, although it cost $5,000 to put in =(

LilyBell*Murphy'sLawLuvsMe mentioned anesthesia as a possible cause... for the implant ,they used a local injection , no anesthesia.

I think based on what you wrote - the hair loss was already happening before the implant then it kicked in full steam and that is when you noticed it and it was just a conincidence it was after the implant. Still a biopsy may put your mind at ease. I think I would try the Rogaine to see if it helps.

I've done a lot of research on AA triggers and surgery (such as a dental implant) causes stress to your body and therefore can cause an autoimmune flare. I don't know anything about titanium and hair loss, but your procedure sounds like something that could cause an AA flare so before you have it removed; that is maybe something to think about.
