I am looking for some opinions and insite...

A new Derm that I went to see this week at Hershey Medical center here in PA who is a Scalp and skin specialist has suggested I try squaric acid treatment.

Has anyone used this treatment and what is your opinion or outcome? I know everyone reacts differently but just trying to see if this is something I want to try.

Thanks

We are using the women's romaine with her.

My daughter was totalis, but did not lose her eye brows and lashes. Spots filled in quickly with the 1%, August 2014 we reached the appropriate dose, and she has full head of hair, about two inches long now.

I truly think the curcumin and the probiotic have been critical in her hair regrowth as well. We use the type that you have to keep refrigerated.

I got hair on my face just by applying it to my scalp.. it was peach fuzz but it ws definitely there! If I was a guy I would try the rogaine.. but one thing about the rogaine is that if you start getting results I hear you have to keep using it otherwise your new growth might fall out. For me, i grew peach fuzz and when i stopped using it because of my hairy face haha the peach fuzz fell out.. so I guess it's just a matter of what you want to do!

I just called my derm to ask for an increase! We'll see what the new percentage does!

Oh and I lost one of my eyebrows and got my eyebrows done with a permanent make up specialist. They look so real and its awesome because I dont have to worry about them looking weird. The lady that did mine said she has alopecia patients all the time and she does eyebrows, lining to look like hair for those without eyelashes, and she even does full heads of "hair" to make it look like stubble on the head for guys. I thought that was really itneresting. Maybe work googling around! I love my eyerbows so I was happy with it!

Jason, my son was has been doing squaric acid treatme t for the past 6 months...he was doing very well and by the 5th month he had about 80 percent hair growth and then all of a sudden he relapsed although we were still doing treatment. Is that common to relapse during treatment? Did your dr say what was possibly the cause for relapse? Did your hair continue to grow after relapse
Julie don't Give up...your heading in the right direction!
Does anyone go to Cleveland Clinic for treatment?

Hi Everyone!

After doing research online and reading forums (this one included) last year, I decided to try the squaric acid.  I had a pretty extreme reaction after the first use.  Under the instruction of the dermatologist, I only used it 2 or 3 more times and experienced an even worse reaction. My scalp became inflamed and I started getting small bumps like hives all over my scalp and parts of my hands and arms.

I received "so-so" results, but now I have blueish/gray bruise-like marks on my arms and hands.  My scalp turned 3 shades darker and looks bruised.  The discoloration also spread to parts of the side of my face.

Has anyone else ever had this reaction?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi there, I haven't really experienced this to that degree but I do have a darker circle on my head where we did the initial sensitization of 2%. This is still left from November so I'm hoping it goes away eventually!

It's so strange.  My dermatologist had never seen this reaction either.  I hope my dark marks go away soon too.  Have you tried using anything to help them go away?

What strength were you using? We started with 1% and had to get another prescription for 1/2 that dose as it had a horrible reaction for my daughter as well. She goes though 1 cycle per year with 2-3 spots. We use the squaric acid 1 time a week for about 6 weeks and she gets about 60-80% hair re-growth each time. We have used the squaric acid for about 2-3 yrs now for her cycles. The second day it does get red, swollen and itchy and then calms down after that with just some dryness. She makes the decision when she wants to start treatment as it is her body, her decision.

Hi Erika,

Has your daughter experienced a full head of hair with the squaric acid?

Jason- she has AA and only gets 2-3 spots at a time (hopefully it stays this way). So when the spots appear, we usually leave them alone for a couple months and then start the squaric acid treatment for 4-6 treatments before we see growth. Once we see growth, we stop the treatment and let the hair grow. The hair growing in grows in REALLY fast and catches up with her hair in only a few months, it is crazy. I know everyone is difference and this has been working for us for now.

Wow, Erika, that's  great that your daughter is having continued success with the treatment.  I was using the .8% with Acetone Soln.  My dermatologist had never seen my reaction before either.  I guess this is unchartered territory for everyone.

After the inflammation went away.  My scalp started to peel.  It think my body reacted like I had a chemical burn.
