I have had shots successfully since I was 7, I am 30 now. I was wondering if anyone else has become immune to them, and if so, what was your next option that was successful. Also, has anyone noticed weight gain from the shots? It has taken me 21 years to realize that the shots have always kept my belly chubby. I played semi pro soccer and still had a chubby belly, so it is not that I am an over eater. I just need to know that I am not the only one out there. :)

Hello Stacy!

I've initially started with steroid shots about 5 years ago and also use daily the steroid foam (Olux). I have wondered the very same you are asking- if I would build an immunity to them....

First thing I noticed was the shots did not seem any more effective then the topical steroids. So it's been some time now since I stopped the shots and just use the foam. At any given time I have multiple spots- so I often "experiment" for example, I would get shots in only half of them to see if it made a difference. foam on some and nothing at all on a few. That is how I came up with my conclusion that both the shots and foam work equally. And I also saw that for me the use of either worked MUCH better than doing nothing!! The few spots I didn't put anything on got HUGE.

SO- although I have not been using steroids as long as you I can say that in the 5 years I have used them I have not noticed that I've become immune to them. As far as weight- that interesting. Certainly oral steroids cause weight gain so I think it is possible. I've also gained weight in the past few years but never connected it to that...hummm?? (figured it was lots of stressful changes going on- nothing like comfort food!)

Are you planning on stopping the shots? Do you also use a topical steroid?

Heather
Heather- That is very interesting that you used the topical and the shots and they both worked the same. My doctor told me that the topical would not work as well as the shots. Now that I am becoming resistant to the shots, I will have to try the cream. I recently just started using nioxin hair product hoping that it would stimulate the folicles enough for new growth. I will let you know how that works. Stacy
Alan- I am sorry about all of the medical conditions you are having to deal with. I hope you are keeping your head up high throughout it all. I agree with you, about me gaining a chubby belly. There is a lot worse things that could happen. :). So what have you found to work? the shots or the topical?
Cindy- what a great attitude. I could only agree more. That if it is going to happen it is going to happen. I guess, I just have known anything better. Shots always worked, so it was clockwork. (Go to the doctor get the shots, hair grows back, other spots start) I was only dormant, through College, which I find interesting. So do you use anything now? How did you know it was effecting your menstral cycle? I think mine is anxiety related, or hormonal.
