I have had AU for nearly 17 years and have had only six colds (and never the flu) or anything like that. I wonder if the immune system being SO busy attacking hair follicles everywhere on your body that its like Arnold Schwarzenegger. I would like to hear whether any other alopecians (esp those with AU) have experienced a similar super-duty immune system?? Even cuts or scrapes heal VERY quickly.

My bones don't ache but my joints DO.One doc who I cannot track down now said that Alopecia could parlay itself into a connective tissue disease which is what I'm pretty sure has happened to me.

Thank you for the info I will make appt soon but what Dr would I need to see ...I really given up on doctors they no.nothing it can't do anything for me...Me&MyGirl

My normal GP picked up my Hasimoto disease, and the lack of Vitamin D (its pretty standard for people with autoimmune problems I think) also he picked up Hasimoto in my daughter, after symptoms of tiredness, aches and pains, and yellow skin with red bags under her eyes, however she now sees a specialist (endocronoligist) now at the Royal Childrens Hospital in Melbourne, as she is 9 with two autoimmune diseases alreay and eczema, so she is on close watch and has undergone every autoimmune test possible, with nothing coming up (which is a relief)
The important thing with the tyroid is to test for the TSH, T3 & T4 - do a little research on the web, and research on others so you can ask your dr to test for these things.

Me&MyGirl_Assuie I already got on it on goggle,,I'm on it Thank you so much now i know what to tell my doctor i made and appointment today for next, i wanted it sooner becuz i'm getting so much pain..and sluggish all the time...I'm 40 years old i have AU for 21years now...and not one doctor test my levels .so i can't think you enough...i also talk to a women at work today aand ask her becuz she has a older daugther that have AU too and she said the she had the thyroid problem first before her AU so she is grown now and she have to take it for the rest of her life...

I GOT MY NOTES NOW..LOL

That is an awesome benefit for you if so. I have had AU for 43 years. I have always gotten sick easily and have a hard time getting well. Skin problems, allergies to everything outside, dust, molds, animals and many foods, Allergic and general asthma and many other medical conditions. Narcolepsy and lichen sclerosis are possibly immune system related as well.
