Hi all:

I just stumbled across this social network and signed up right away. I was wondering if anyone has had treatment from clinic at the Sunnybrook Hospital - I have heard good things about it and just wanted to learn more. Is it true that you have to have a referral from your family Dr. to get in?

Hi Angela,

I am from Toronto too. Nice to meet you. I never been to sunnybrook for the treatment. Yes, you need a doctor's referral to have the treatment done.
HI, I am sure you will need to go to your family doctor and get a referral. I hope this helps!
have not heard a thing about it where is this located...city state?
Thanks for all of your responses - the dermatology clinic is in Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. I did need a referral from my family Dr. and hope to get an appointment in September. I will keep you all posted :)
Yes you need a referral because they are specialists. I've been going to Sunnybrook for about 12 years and the doctors and nurses in the dermatology department are wonderful. They are a teaching hospital and sometimes they will ask if you don't mind if medical residents sit in on your appointment; but you don't need to feel pressured because you can say no without consequences (unlike my past experience at Womens College Hospital; was not very nice there).
Thanks Brandy - I now have an appointment for .......November! eek, I hope it's worth the wait
I know, the waiting time for an appointment bites. But once you're in, follow ups don't usually take as long to book (depending on how busy).
I have just recieved the date for my first appt there. The wait time is actually not as bad as expected....my referral went in two weeks ago and my appt is for Jan 5.

Any advice? Anything I should bring? Anything I should know? Its a 3 1/2 hour drive for me so I dont want anything to go wrong...lol
Actually, yes. Something has changed in the hospital. Because of the whole flu/germ scare; they now no longer offer magazines etc. as reading material. You have to bring your own book/magazine etc.
Apparently a new doctor is supposed to be coming back in January after many seminars etc. with new knowledge about new treatments. I had an appointment on Oct. 14; they just called and told me when my appointment with him is; it's March 12, 2010; 5 months from now, 6 months from that appointment!
Because of this mega-long delay I finally called and made an appointment to see a Chinese Medicine doctor. Guess when I see him? This Wednesday. So I have 5 months to see if Chinese medicine works or not.
Are there any places like this in California?
How did your appointment go? I saw my new doc. It definitely was not worth the 6 month wait. I am so not impressed.
They wanted me to do the treatment and that would mean going there every Friday. For me, am appt @ Sunnnybrook is 7 hours travel time. And you know, maybe when my hair first started falling out when I was panicking, I would have done it but I have really come to an acceptance re:my alopecia. I have done my grieveing, do you know what I mean?
I am no longer at a place where I am willing to devote 8 hours a week to trying to grow hair. Sounds crazy doesnt it? At one time, I would have given anything just for a chance @ regrowth but I dont know, today I am just ok with it. I wear my wigs and have fun with that.(.just bought a long curly number which is the total opposite of my bio hair(heres the pic))
