Hello, I have been diagnosed with AA 2 weeks ago. I have a patch on the top of my head around 10cm long and 3 cm thick. Hair is still falling out quite quickly. My dermatologist is having me take a lot of biotin. Is anyone else taking biotin and has it helped?? Thanks

Hello,

I just started taking "BioSil" for my nails....seems to have some sort of relation to losing my hair that I also have very thin nails. Not sure if it works yet but it has some great reviews.

Hi Rajesh,

I don't remember ever having a disease of my nails before hand. Just seems as I have had alopecia...my nails are also weak ; (.
I also remember or "think" that my Alopecia was brought on a great amount of stress. I want through a divorce in my mid 20's and I was devastated. Anyway, long story short...soon after my hair started to come out in patches and get really thin. The dermatologist stated they felt is was stressed related because they saw nothing wrong with my follicles or scalp. ...years and years later...still no hair.

Ya gotta take Iodine too...see the bottom comments on my home page under my profile....I joined this site to tell everybody how I cured my AA. I am not here as a psychological support group person. I cured it. It took a lot of research and thinking outside the box. Look at the bottom of my home page by clicking on my avatar picture and look below my profile. Iodine(best in the form of kelp at 100% or slightly more but not too much and biotin and I went from nearly bald for a year to hair everywhere in just a few weeks. I have helped two other people with patchy bald spots to recover.

Rob, thank you so much for your post. I have been taking Iodoral for a few years and I have hair growth. It grew back white and now my original dark hair is returning. How much Biotin do you take? What brand? My integrative doc recommended it. Thanks!

I have been taking biotin regularly since I found my first patch last year. I have experienced regrowth, but I believe it has to do with the cortisone treatments. But my nails look really pretty :)

My son takes Biotin daily - skin and hair look very healthy.....when he gets lazy and stops taking it, the condition of his hair suffers noticeably....

Since doctors are likely to test thyroid if you have hair issues, be aware that you need to stop taking biotin, I'd say for about a week - it messes with the test results!
