I am a high school teacher and I have been completely bald for just over a year. All of my students watched as I lost may hair last year. First I put on hats but when it all fell out and I had to shave, I went to turbans. I went out and purchased a very expensive wig and wore it to school one time. I had a reaction to my wig that I did not expect. It made me feel weak and I hated that so I never put it on again. I went back to wraps for another month or so but finally decided that I would just go out with big earrings and colored on eyebrows and make the best of it. I could only do that because my husband was 100% behind me.
Fast forward to yesterday, a young student at the school that I don't even teach came into my room and said, " I have to tell you something." I had long hair down to my bottom and I cut it off to donate it. I donated 1/2 in honor of my aunt who died of cancer and 1/2 in your honor because you inspire me and show me that life and beauty is more than hair. WOW!!! I have had an effect on this girl that I don't even know just by being the only person I can be. I believe that I have been given this life the way it is on purpose and for a purpose.

Hi Kathie,
What an inspiring post. I am a social worker and have worked with kids for 30 years. I started to lose my hair 2 years ago and now have AU.....
Never underestimate the power of our words and actions on a young person. It takes a lot of courage to bare yourself, both inside and out.
Thank you for sharing and inspiring me:)
Thanks Michelle, You are so right about the power of words on young people. You have to be so careful. In teaching even a look gives a whole room of students an impression. They focus on every comment I make.
Hi
Wonderful things happen to wonderful people. Thanks for sharing your story!
Rosy
WOW! That is a great story and bravo to you!!! First of all, to go bald, and second of all, to do it at a high school... you have some courage! Thank you for sharing. Keep rocking it girl!
Our loss is someone's gain. God's purpose is for His glory. Shine, my sister, we are not our hair...it's what's in the heart, while making an impact to others. Once realizing, after going through, we can say that it is God's work, so continue to do it. He gives us strength and courage. God bless you.
