Hey all, new guy here.

I've had patches come and go on my body for many years but last year a 2-3 inch hole opened up on the right side of my head last fall. I have been doing my best to cover but now see a hole on the left and my wife indicates a spot on the back. Is this the beginning of the end? or the unending coming and going of patchiness, crap!

As a guy, baldness is not all that uncommen. You even see guys with a full head of thick hair shave it because they find it easy cooler in the summer! Bastards

Anyway, thinking about the big shave and just wanted to hear from some other guys what they thought pre-shave for the first time? My policy in life is typically keep it simple and in my opinion there's no bad hair days or cover up worries with a shaved head!

Hey Bart,

You may get lucky, the pattern is not the same for everyone.
From my own experience, well, it started similarly and ended with a head shave.
If you do decide to shave, depending on your colouring, you may want to get out there and get some rays on it!
As blokes we are lucky in that no-one really cares about a bald man.
Best of luck with it, you seem to be taking it in your stride, and rightly so.

Greg
Thanks Greg,

I wonder if my response will be "I wish I'd done this sooner" rather than deal with the patches, was this your feeling?
Also Greg, do you use a Head blade? as I read many do.

Bart
Absolutely, 100%. After the initial "who the hell is that bald bloke in the mirror" shock, within a week I was thinking why did I struggle along for so long!
I don't use the head blade, my hair was grey/white before it went away so I just buzzed it with the clippers.
It never grew back, so I wasted a few quid on that there clippers :)
If you have dark hair and strong growth, people definitely recommend the head blade.
Good luck with it!

Greg
Thanks Greg,

Really appreciate the feed back. My hair is 50% grey 25% brown and 25% missing!

Bart
Sounds like the ideal colouring for a close shave :)
Prepare for:
(a) Early rain perception (other people will think you are gifted in sensing a rain shower)
(b) Lots of summer sun tan lotion
(c) Cold winter days. Invest in a good hat!

Thanks for starting this thread, Bart. I'm going through the same thing--AA on my body for years and now spreading RAPIDLY on my head. It has also expanded on my body and I estimate I've lost over 50% there. Wouldn't you know, I have the smallest loss on my back hair! LOL

It's been less than two weeks since I noticed a bald spot about the size of a dime behind my right ear. That's now more than two inches across and has been joined by several of its friends, including in my beard. My eyebrows are starting to go, as well. Actually I'm starting to look pretty mangey! So I'll probably be trimming the beard to a goatee and shaving the dome tonight. I'm 99.99% white on both, so no five o'clock shadow, fortunately.

Hey Bruce, I still haven't pulled the trigger on the shave yet and like you I'm getting pretty shaggy looking with the patches. It's nice to hear Greg tell that once its off, its a bit of a fresh start.

You seem like a good guy with a great sense of humour. Please let me know when you "take the plunge"

My wife say's just do it. I'm thinkin new years eve.
