Tingling and painful scalp. Normal?

Hi. I'm 42 and have just started with this "spot" hairloss thing that the dermatologist called AA. I have never in my life experienced this and now have a spot the size of a silver dollar on one side of my hard and a couple smaller ones on the back of my head. So to say that I'm completely freaked out might be the understatement of the year.. Thinking back a few months (9 or so) I started having dry flacky scalp really bad and then little "pimples" on my scalp. And then in early November my hairstylist noticed a small spot, which now is the big one. I now have tingling and somewhat painful spots in my scalp which worsens at night. So my question(s) are is this the normal progression of AA and does the tingling mean that I'm going to lose my hair in those spots?? Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have received a couple of injections at the site of the first two spots and will be returning to the derm this week for a few more shots for new spots (catch them while their small:-). And thanks. And also it does seem that everyone here does developed AU it's scary but it was the first site I found. Comforted by the fact that you said not everyone progresses that way. Again thank you

I am in the same predicament as you. I also have all the same systems add you right down to my scalp hurting. I wish I could tell you
what the next step is but I an not sure myself.Just wanted you to know you were not alone. <3

Thank you and I will keep you up to date. This really does suck and I'm glad this is out here at least for us to know that others hAve gone thru this too

Last time, I had the pain.  Felt like a sunburn - esp if the wind blew my hair.  

I have some pain this time around, but nothing like the first time!

I had tingling and pain all over my head when I lost it. I have no idea if it's normal, but I assume so?

iv had AA on and off for 10ish years,the bald spots always were tender and sometimes painful too.i  think this is perhaps the inflammation maybe? sometimes I have had tingly/tender areas of my head and not lost hair from there though. Alopecia is unpredictable and no 2 cases the same. x

When I was losing my hair I had the same feeling after it fell out it stopped. When I talked to the dermatologist they never paid no attention to it. I always thought I was the only one. Guess this happens to some of us.
