Total regrowth :)

Alopecia World :) First I would like to say THANK YOU, to every one of you on this site that helped me during this difficult journey! I have wanted to post for awhile now, but I just couldn't find the words! It has been such an emotional journey and although I am hoping it is over, I still have all the fears that it will return :( This is very difficult for me to write because I know some of you have unfortunately lost more hair than I had, but I also want to give some hope too. I have had total regrowth! Woohoo :) For those of you that do not know, I ended up losing about 75-80% of my hair, along with a few small patches periodically of eyebrows and eyelashes :( As I was losing my hair, it was very pinkish on the scalp and extremely itchy! It was coming out in clumps and I was devastated! Luckily for me, I was able to wear baseball caps for awhile because it still looked like I had hair in a ponytail...thank you God for giving me so much hair! I had gone through every test under the sun and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Although all doctors said, it was stress for me that caused the hair loss and then causing even more stress...watching it all fall out! I then switched over to the bandanas after the ballcaps were no longer doing their job. After what seemed like forever, my hair finally slowly started growing back in, but not in the way it fell out! It starting filling in from the outside of all "my circles" in and it came back, very strange! It was very thin, like the hair on a new baby's head, with a lot of it being curly. It was almost clear in color, but then, at about an inch long...all of a sudden the pigment/color would go into the hair! Except for the ones that had become permanently grey lol, but like I would always say...I'll take it any color: brown, grey, purple, blue! I didn't care, as long as there was hair! My hairdresser said it was not a coincidence that I had started using a new shampoo...along with going to see a therapist :) That's probably the best thing I ever did! He said because the shampoo had zinc in it, that helped it jump start it's regrowth! I never did injections because the dermatologist said it was just to rapid for that procedure :( I did do one round of steroids though (early on) and I decided not to do any more after that one though. I completely made up my mind, that if this is the way I am supposed to be, then so be it! Anyways, it could be way worse! But with that being said, I never gave up hope that some day in the distant future, it may come back :) I wish each and every one of you total regrowth also :) Thank you again!!!

Hi Judy,

Iam delighted for you you are so so lucky. I took this dreaded thing over a year ago and in the bald patches I now see baby hair but that's all. I wear a wig as its too embarrassing to go out like this. How long did it take for your hair to grow back. ENJOY it.

Hi there.

I initially suffered hair loss often associated with pregnancy. I used Vitamin B-12 injections over a three month period and the hair slowly grew back.

I then lost my hair again after a big emotional stress plus a surgery involving heavy blood loss. It started off with a big round bald patch of hair on the top of my scalp, it then spread to the back and nape of my head ending with the bits around my ears. It took one year for 90% of my hair to fall out. It might have taken so long as I fought to keep it by using every medication and method possible, from steroid injections to hypnosis.

Eighteen months after my alopecia began, I started using micro-nutrition and an epigenetic super-food to help rejuvenate my cells. Within six months, eighty per cent of my hair had grown back. One year later I still have eighty per cent of my hair, unfortunately not 100%, but at least I no longer feel the need to wear a wig and I am therefore “au naturel”.

Hi Michelle, My story is similar to yours.  It took a year for all of my hair to completely fall out.  My hair is now regrowing with the help of Vitamin B12.  It has been 5 months now and the regrowth is slow but it is growing.  I can't wait for the day I no longer have to wear a wig.  Debbie.

I am very happy for you. I think for each of us this condition is different and we have it for different reasons. I am experiencing my second re-growth after losing 80% of my hair twice; I have no idea what causes it to fall out, and we have no idea why it grows back. I am so paranoid about losing it a 3rd time, I check it for "fallout" almost daily; any hair on the floor or in the tub is worrisome. It has been growing back since Aug.; except for a few patches and the area over my ears (coming back, but taking for-ev-er), it is pretty much all back. I hope you have found the answer; I'm still searching for mine.

So sorry everyone, I thought I put this in. The shampoo is Neutrogena daily control (from the makers of T/Gel). I buy the 2 in 1 Dandruff Shampoo Plus Conditioner :)It is a gray bottle with a royal blue lid. Not all stores carry this specific 2 in 1, but I just happened to find it in CVS and figured I'd give it a try. I will also say, although I don't think it played a part, I would first wash my hair (well scalp cuz there was barely any hair left) with TRESemme Deep Cleanse. Then I would rinse that off and put on the Neutrogena by massaging the scalp with the pads of my fingers...not my nails. I would let the Neutrogena sit on my scalp for about 2 minutes. In the beginning I never wanted to even touch my hair, at the fear that even more would fall out :( As time went by and almost all of it gone, I figured well if it's gonna go...it's gonna go! I started with massaging the shampoo, then moved on to combing my scalp, which felt so good and then would blow dry on med-low heat. Of course the blow drying part didn't take very long, like 45 seconds...poof...dry! Haha. There had come a point where I just wanted to shave it off. My husband said he would support me either way, but he did share with me that he would prefer if I didn't and gave his reasonings. After discussions with my therapist, she advised a "no" also, but said she would completely understand...if that's what I had to do for myself. After careful consideration and many talks with my husband, we made a deal. If there was no positive change in 6 months...it's being shaved :) Well long story short, I never did shave it off!

Hey Judy.....I have a question about the shampoo. In the ingredients (for the shampoo) does it say ZINC??? When I was out looking for it, I didn't find that one although there were other Neutogena shampoos made by T/Gel but I didn't see ZINC in the ingredients :(, so I was wondering is it clearly stated as ZINC on the label????? So many shampoos to choose from, lol!!!!

Thanks for sharing.  I have had alopecia areata for over 10 years.  Started with over 60% hair loss, have done all kinds of topical treatments and steroid injections over the years, but nothing seemed stop the hair loss.  I have used Nioxin shampoo and scalp treatment plus I take Biotin Forte vitamins daily and that seems to have worked the best to minimize the hair loss, but I have never had total regrowth.  I am looking forward to trying your shampoo to see if it helps me to get full regrowth.  I would love to be able to get a hair style without fear of holes popping up.  Worth a try at least. :)  Thanks again for sharing.

I personally have experienced total loss AND total regrowth. THREE TIMES!  I'm 90% bald now, but in such a better place than I was the first time.  This site is awesome!  Hugs and joy to you, dear!
