Hi all

28 year old male in the UK with half a beard half a head of hair and eyebrows lashes starting to disappear.

I have been following the jak trials intently but all seems to go quiet.

Does anyone have any up to date information on when we can expect jak treatment that is approved. Thinking about starting on xeljanz but cannot find anyone in UK to support with bloods.

Thanks have a nice day.

Have you thought about self medicating? As for blood tests it should be easy in the UK.

There is clinical trial for a new JAk specially designed for AA, since last week they are also

doing the trial in the UK. It is Pfizer’s new JAk.
https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/record/NCT03732807?term=NCT0373...

it doesn't list micropigmentation as a criteria for ineligibility. it's worth a try!

micropigmentation is not an exclusion. They give altogether three years free access to the new med plus free medical follow up. And it is not Xeljanz but a better and safer medication.

You need to contact the clinic directly. It is Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals.
In each EU/EEA member states which is participating Pfizer’s assigned clinics are recruiting some 30 subjects per member state, so it will limited. Right now there is still sufficient capacity, but that might change over the next weeks.
I would not sit and wait but actively secure a place in the UK trial. It might be a (quality of life) life saver and a once in a lifetime chance. I am in direct contact with one of the clinics offering the trial in Germany. Right now many people with AA have no clue that this trial is opening in Europe and it is first come first serve. And many confuse it with Xeljanz.

Nor 75. Whst is the drug if it’s not Xeljanz ?

It is PF06651600, a newly developed inhibitor of JAK3 only. Highly selective and safer and more efficient than Xeljanz. It is the clinical breakthrough according to FDA in AA. It will likely be the standard therapy in future.

Nor 75. In which clinic in Germany are you in contact with?

I live in the Netherlands and like to participate in a trial of Pfizer in Germany.

I have emailed Pfizer but they are not responding.

The clinic is called Fachklinik Bad Bentheim. They speak Dutch and are close to the German/Dutch border. They will start the trial in November. Contact them directly and they will revert. The derm in charge is Dr Tsianakas.

Nor75. Thank you for your information.

Your welcome. Suggest you inform people in the Netherlands about this opportunity. We can all contribute to bring the medication through the trial and on the market. It is pivotal for us and particularly for our young family members and relatives who might be a risk of developing alopecia areata in the future!

So question the PF trial is 2 hours away. I dont think it would be worth it to travel back and forth every month for blood work. With that being said the only close trial is baricitinib but I hear there are more sides with it. So should stay local or is the 2 hour drive worth it for the treatment that may eventually be the standard?
