I've always had human hair wigs, and I just bought a synthetic wig a few weeks ago. I'm curious how some of you wash it. I've heard a few different ways, and I'm not sure what is the 'best' method if one exists. Any help would be great! Thanks in advance!

Some people have their own preferred method. For my synthetic wigs, I like to use a gallon bucket. I fill it with water with 2-3 tablespoons of wig shampoo. I swirl the wig around in the water by the tag for a minute or so then dip the entire wig in the water. Then I let it soak for 5-10 minutes. Then I take the wig out, dump the water, and fill it up with water to rinse it. I dump out that water, and then fill it up again. I do the same thing with conditioner. Then I place the wig on a towel to dry. Once the excess water is gone, I hang it up to dry overnight. Do not brush or do anything to the wig while it is wet. Once it is dry, you can shake it to get it ready to wear. I hope that helps! Which one did you get?

Thanks so much! Someone told me this was the best way to do it, but I couldn't remember how much shampoo and conditioner to use! I bought a wig from a vendor at the NAAF conference. It's called Lucinda's Hair and I believed she works out of CT. I just posted a new pic of my page if you want to check it out. (it's the short blonde wig)

You're welcome! I want to say that I read to use between 1-3 tablespoons so I try to stick with that range. I think it might have similar instructions on the shampoo bottle. I like it! It sort of reminds me of "Opulence" by Gabor. Did you like the NAAF conference? I'm planning on going in 2014.

Yes I went this year! I'm hoping to go again next year, but we'll see when it gets closer! Thanks again!

I wash my synthetics in a small amount of the same detergent I use to wash clothes, if I don't have Woolite on hand. Then I blot it in a towel and allow to air dry. They come out great every time, and the detergent dulls some of the synthetic shine out of them. I do use a synthetic wig conditioning spray to aid in detangling the longer ones. I think it's from Paula Young.

Hi .... it's a bit off topic but i have been using human hair wigs for about 2 years and i think i might switch to synthetic because the human hair gets dry and knotty SO quickly and i can't really wear my hair down.

Do you mind if i ask why you switched and how you're finding it?

thanks!

I switched because I wanted a wig that I could throw on and go. My other wigs are much longer, and require a lot of maintenance. The synthetic has been great so far! I love that i just have to run a comb through it, and it always looks the great!! I'm very happy with it. The only concern I have is the quality. I heard that they only last for a few months, if worn every day. I do not wear wigs every day, so I'm not as concerned about it, but it's something to consider if you are thinking about switching.
