Hi y'all, any feedback on my pic wearing scarf? I really need some honest feedback! I'm scared to venture out without a wig. 26 years now you think I would be ok with it!
Thanks to everyone!

Hi Aimee,
Thank you for your support and the heads up on the response I may get. I chickened out today maybe soon! I'm working up my courage with everyone's support!

Hi Bren,
Don't give yourself too much grief over feelings like you should be OK with it, I've been completely without hair going on 3 years now, but I dealt with AA for 10 years prior. I'm mostly OK with it, but wear a wig full time, except at home, and even not that comfortable with my husband, I would just rather he see me with my wig, I don't think there is anything wrong with wearing a scarf to work, it's just a matter of your own comfort, and perhaps your work conditions, do your coworkers already know about your Alopecia? If so this could make it much easier for you, if not than there may be some concern and surprise, just be prepared for that, and of course the Cancer questions, Unfortunatly. You look beautiful in the scarf, and in the end it's totally where your comfort level is. Good luck, and keep us posted if you do decide to wear the scarf, and reactions from you and others.

Christine,

So you mentioned not being that comfortable with your husband and him seeing him in your wig. Do you sleep in your wig? Seems like it would be uncomfortable and hot at night. I have a neighbor who also wears a wig, not sure of the reason, and when I stayed at her house I saw her go into her room with her wig on but, am not sure whether she takes it off to sleep or not.

I never tried laying down in my wig, I am afraid too.

Hi Christine, I am totally fine with my husband seeing me bald but have difficulty out in public with scarf! I trying to build up courage! Thank you so much for your support

Hi

I think you have it going on... you look great in your scarf!

Just keep in mind to be prepared if you are going out in your scarf...as people tend to be curious.  A few answers that explain that you have alopecia and that you normally like to wear a wig, but today you felt like a change.  Or whatever you want to say to help with your change.

Good luck with everything.

Hi Rose Marie, thank you again for your continued support and kind words! I chickened out today but working on it!

Hi Bren, I use scarves and hats when I don't feel like wearing a wig. I use beanie hats in winter, lots of people wear beanies as a fashion statement so I don't stand out. Your scarf matches your top and is a very nice accessory to your outfit. I really love the jewellery you have on the scarf too. I think this look suits you and is smart enough for formal occassions if you don't want to wear a wig. Your have beautiful features and I think you would really look good in wig/scarf/hat. I always wear a wig to work but it is a huge relief to just pop on scarves/hats at other times. When I wear scarves/hats nobody ever says anything, lots of people wear something on their head it is just because we are covering up hair loss that we can feel self conscious. Your work colleagues don'thave to know why you are wearing a scarf, only tell rhem if you want to otherwise just pass it off as a fashion choice.

I saw your photos before this post and thought you looked beautiful,  vibrant and assumed you wore scraves. I have been wearing scarves in public for 8 years . I have had au for 14 years. I still get a bit tired of people looking at the scarf but the freedom and comfort outweigh the negatives.  It intrigues me how people react. Some people zeroin on me and see penciled eyebrows and scarf and assume I have cancer. Other people ... even people I see often ...don't notice my lack of hair and assume I wear scarves for fashion. I have even had 2 different Afghanistan women ask if I am Afghanistan.  The more I acquire pretty scarves, the more I appreciate beauty of them. Take a look at hijab fashion photos...those women in their scarves are gorgeous.  The more I realized it was not just women with cancer or thinning hair that wore scarves,  more confident I became. I hope you give it a try and are able to enjoy new freedom and experience!  Good luck!
