Hello,

We've started my son on a dermatologist prescribed treatment of clobetasol cream, It's been 2 weeks. One of the things we were told was to watch for thinning of the skin on the areas being treated.

After thinking about it a bit, I realized that I don't really know what this looks like. Some googling showed some pretty horrific stuff which I am assuming is much further along the thinning timeline.

Does anyone know where to find some good example photos of what thinning scalp looks like, or some advice on it?

Thanks!

I personally used Clobetasol on and off for almost 3 years. I cannot say for sure that I had thinning, but it did irritate my scalp pretty bad, huge break outs on my scalp. It was the only treatment I used. I am sure it thinned it out, but the skin will eventually rebuild itself. I never applied it for more than a couple days in a row, followed by a couple days off. Often went months without using it.

thanks for the insight!

Can I assume (based on the fact that you used it for so long) that you had some results with it?

Yes, it would give results within a couple of weeks. Also look into calcipotriene and calcitriol which are topical Vitamin D3 analogs which have shown promise for psoriasis and alopecia areata.  Your derm can call that into your pharmacy, it may be less irritating and they have done studies on it if you google it.
