Hey there, this is only my first proper post, so sorry, but its gonna be long :) I started wearing wigs about 2.5 years ago. Starting off first with a synthetic Jon Reneau & quickly moving on to full lace human hair wigs. I have androgenic alopecia or diifuse alopecia areata (they couldn't decide!) Had been loosing my hair since I was 16, so after years of lamenting, I bit the bullet, shaved the head and got into wigs :) Having lost a lot of my confidence over those years, I'm only now starting to sort of gain it back. I've always wanted to learn how to swim & surf, so have been trying but am struggling to find the right set-up of wig (or wigs) to get me through easily. Since I bond my full wig with tape,I don't really have issues with how secure it is, my question moreso is: Is it possible to continue an active lifestyle, including waterpsorts, whilst maintaining a decent looking wig (ones thats attached to your head I mean :))? I can't afford a Follea etc type wig, plus I think most people would scream if I suggested swimming or surfing in them! I buy cheaper FL wigs from China online, thats all I can afford, theres not a lot available n my area plus I like the lengths & realistic part lines of them. However, I could see them easily being ruined by all this water activity + extra washing; my current wig is already drying out and matting a bit. Also, I don't think freedom type wigs would suit due to price and the presence of head stubble :) Does anyone else do this kind of stuff? And how do they maintain the wig or wigs? It's possible I asking for too much, but I'm still not ready to go au naturel :( any suggestions welcome xx

I've never tried to swim in a wig. I am bothered by the heat a lot so it's always a cap when on a casual day for me. When I go swimming I just put up with people having to see my scalp. From what I can tell, I'm the only one it bothers, lol. Concentrate on having fun. I feel so much better when I let go of worrying about how I look. How much does anybody else really care except for a passing thought about being glad it's me and not them? I'm just glad it's not anything worse than hairloss myself.
Swimming with a wig can be a challenge. You can certainly ruin your beautiful human hair wig trying to do so. However there are two good swim systems that have proven to be lightweight, look very authentic w/ a base cap that is made to allow water to flow right through the wig for an easy wonderful experience.
Because of my own personal experience year ago in having to withdraw from my favorite sports, I have put most my designing energies for the last 10 years at CreatedHair.com to creating active systems for women who want to live a more normal life, including intimacy. There is absolutely no reason for any woman to stop their lives ~ there are great products now in the market that can help all of us. Both are a high grade synthetic w/ more realistic thinner hair strands.
One is called CyberHair™
The other is called The Water Wig™
Both are hand-tied and super comfy.
The difference is that CyberHair™ has a more fitted cap while the Water Wig™ is all lace cap with small areas of silicone in the lining of the cap to grab more securely to those without any hair. However for extra security I still
suggest wearing clips or tape with both.
True Bev! I will get there someday - it's a process :)
Actually I get used to baldness now. I think I am looking fine without hair.
Actually, I just found that D-biotin is effective in treating hair loss.
Hey, you can try other wigs also may be that suits your requirement's. I have found one for you here
Try reading some reviews from these guys to get a better understanding of stores out there www.wigsreview.com. They helped me buy my first wig and I can't wait to get it. I never really thought of how it will hold up in the water so that should be interesting. Thanks for this post as I know more of what to ask when buying my wigs.
First of all, I'd like to express my admiration to your life attitude and optimistic nature - that's kinda very unusual for common people, so you're just great! As long as you can enjoy your life and live it full and rich, you're just lucky to overcome any obstacles) So what's about your head and sports. I suppouse, thouse two can certainly exist in harmony) Just try a specialist's help at a proper salon, e.g. in Trantr personal care list http://trantr.com/category/personal-services/personal-care - you'll get a wig created just for you! Just imagine, how many sportsmen have the same peculiarity! And nobody knows about that! Because they spend a good deal of time and money (yeah that's a pity) to go in for sports and feel comfortable! Good luck!)
Yes, I agree with Maryapple.
Just try looking for cool specialist for consultation about this problem. here list also http://puplz.com/st/fl/15499-los-angeles/services/health-services/s...
I hope that this will help you and you decide your problem
i have a freedom wig and i am a huge swimmer and love the ocean. i wear a freedom wig. i do get some regrowth, but i just take a buzzer and shave it off. no harm, no foul. i don't grown enough hair to go without my wig. i know that the wigs aren't cheap, but for me it is worth it. people really can't tell it's a wig. good luck on your journey!!!!!
Update!
Someday I will have a freedom wig! Alas, today is not the day! So great too the thread is still getting replies nearly two years later :D thanks to everyone who shared, and to those selling their wares.. shame on you! and please don't bother wasting our time!
I have been wearing HH full lace wigs surfing, working out - no swimming though - the chlorine is just too much to subject the hair to.
I find it difficult to get a good reproducible look from the Chinese vendor I have been buying from - does anyone have any suggestions on a good vendor?
I also will admit that sometimes I am just not very good at looking after and styling hair - losing my own natural hair has left me a little disinterested with that side of thing :D
So I went out a few times with no hair and had my wig off at home around friends (albeit wearing hats/scarves) --- progress for me lol!!
