Hi, everyone, OK so how often are you suppose to wash a HH wig?? I keep hearing different opinions, some say not more than once a week, others say much longer, like several weeks, and some say it's OK to wash every 2-4 days..so confusing, when I first wash mine it looks better than it does 4-5 days later, it almost seems to get drier and damaged looking in between washings, I've been washing mine once a week so far, I don't want to ruin my wig, really need your help. By the way I'm getting better at styling it now, I let it air dry almost completely before messing with it. Also found a surprising shampoo from Avon, after buying some pretty expensive salon brands, it's new to them and its Moroccan argon oil shampoo and conditioner, not pricey at all and my hair has never looked better:)

Hi Christine,
I don't know if you have european or remy hair but I recommend to clients to wash their hair every 7-10 days. When the hair begins to look like it is drying out in between washings try spraying the hair with a little water spray bottle and leave in conditioner or morrocon oil to help "refresh" the softness of the hair. Wetting the hair will often times also help reactivate any product in the hair. Worth a try??
Thanks Jennifer, I will give this a try, I've heard a lot about the Moroccan oil, question does it make the hair oily?? I tried a product called silk drops by Design line, and I thought it made it seem heavy and a bit oily, although very shiny, almost too shiny, looked a bit like a synthetic wig, I do have European hair. Thanks again for the tip.
Hi Christine,
The moroccon oil is not oily or heavy at all. In fact, it is the first product I have used that hasn't left my hair feeling heavy. I LOVE it! I had tried another leave in like this previous and it was exactly how you described oily and shiny...Moroccon oil hasn't done that and it smells fantastic.
They are called "Morrocan Oil" and it is the brand with the blue labels and orange M on the label. If you google morrocan oil in google images you should see this label. Hope this helps.

Hi
I feel you should wash your hair as you need to. It will depend on your lifestyle, body oils, perspiration. Some people require their wigs to be cleaned more regularly than others. Just like some people have oily skin and some dry.
I know you have the Follea 'Gripper'. Do they not have instructions for their hair and their wig??
Peggy Knight one of their Representatives, has a vid on her site telling people how to wash this type of wig. Go and have a wee looksee.
She recommends using a polystyrene head and pins so the cap doesn't stretch or distort and asks people to be careful with the knots etc. when putting the shampoos and conditioner on, as too much up at cap level can cause issues with knots undoing.
European hair...does not mean your hair is not processed...if it is processed (even lightly) it will react differently and need a more attention and care to keep it looking great between washes and long term. I would ring your Representative and have a chat to them about care.

I've been wearing wigs for years and just recently got European hair, but what I've noticed works regardless of hair type is to only wash it maybe once a month (I have the woman who sold me mine wash it so it lasts longer), and I brush through leave in conditioner carefully if it looks dry. Seems to do the trick!
I've noticed that when I first wash it and for a few days after It looks great, clean, snd shiny, but about 5 days into it, it looks heavy, almost like hair that is oily, I have not used any leave in products or hairspray, I use to use tons of hairspray on my bio hair, and washed it every other day, if I went to 3 days it got that gunked up heavy look too. Am I doing something wrong? I can't imagine going once a month, I think it would look like a helmet on my head. my hair is short, do you think that may make a difference? I'm going to order some of the Moroccan oil, and see if that helps it look more lively. I do wear my wig all the time except for sleeping. I bought some of the clear glaze for my bio hair, it was great, I still have some, I think its John Freda, maybe I'll try it next washing.
