So I just took a trip to Mexico for a friend's wedding this past weekend and experienced for the first time the beeping metal detector. I have traveled with my wigs on through airport security before never beeping but this time I was. I knew once I took the bobby pin out of my wig and still beeped that it had to do with the bobby pins I have underneath my hair to keep the wig from sliding. SO I told him I wore a wig for medical reasons in a low voice. He said ok no problem and directed me to the little glass booth where a lovely lady came by to check my feet and pat me down. I told her about my wig as well and her response was, 'Really?!? What is that human hair? Amazing." She told me the only thing beeping was my head and bra and sent me on my way. It was all of 1 minute and truly it wasn't that bad. Not a single person had a clue what was going on - so many people have jewelry they forget about that causes it to beep. What I loved is they didn't make me remove my wig or even show them where the clips were. They were very sensitive and accommodating.

My big fear was coming back and going through security in Mexico since there is a little language barrier and I didn't know if they would be as accommodating. I chose not to wear the bobby pins underneath and just used the regular clips attacher and not a single beep was heard. So don't worry ladies and gents! Just don't wear bobby pins! :)

No problem! Have a fun and safe trip!
Good to know. Thanks for the heads-up. Hope you had a good time in Mexico. I wish I was invited to a wedding in Mexico, anywhere else beside local would work for me. LOL!! Take care & when are we getting together again?
oh no! don't got there .. The resorts are beautiful but it's not worth getting sick. We stayed at a 5 star resort uin Playa Mujeres and still managed to get some degree of sick :( I suggest Dominican Republic or St. Lucia for a wedding or vacation :)

We should get something going. Haven't spoken to Thea since right after the event - but even so we could just meet up soon. Let me know if you have any plans to come to the city soon
I was wondering about this recently too. I was going in and out of courts last week where you get scanned on the way in and I beeped every time I went through. The security guys are pretty chatty and kept asking me, "Can you guess what set it off?" And each time I'm thinking to myself, "please don't be my head, please don't be my head" and saying, "my shoes?" Thankfully each time it was my shoes but I'm not sure what they'd have said if it had been my head!
Do you have clips or a comb in your wig? Those shouldn't go off and I discovered this to be true as soon as I took out the bobby pins. A friend of mine who leads a support group in NYC said she has said she has a metal plate in her head hahaha .. it works!
Hah! I travel a lot and have gone to some far out places with my wig and always wondered if I'll ever get "caught" - Thanks for your story!
Thanks for sharing this, very helpful
