It depends on what you want. Do you want a lace front, or full lace wig? Do you want synthetic or human hair? Did the hairdresser say why you can't get a hairpiece?
You're welcome! A lace front wig is a wig with a lace front, that is to say that the front part of the unit is made of a honeycomb material that is usually 2" to 3" deep from front to back so that you can part the wig. The lace front extends from ear to ear. You can have either glueless lace front wigs that have small combs so that you can secure the wig to any hair you may have, or lace front wigs where you use tape and adhesive to secure the wig to your head. I have A A and have just started shaving my head of the little bit that I had so that I can wear a full lace wig, which I secure to the circumference of my head with waterproof adhesive and tape. They have wigs that are called toppers, but I don't know very much about those - that sounds like what you're looking for? The full lace ones take a lot of practice, but they have tutorials on YouTube if you search "How To Wear A Full Lace Wig". You may want to start out with a lace front wig with adjustable straps in the back that will add to security.
Human Hair wigs give you more versatility of styling, but they can run from anywhere of $180 on up. Synthetic wigs are cheaper, but it takes a while to find wigs that don't look "wiggy". I've had good luck with Vivica Fox wigs and Outre. I've heard some people who like Vouge and Raquel Welch wigs, but it all depends on your preference.
Why do you not feel confident enough to wear a full wig? Are you afraid of having to explain a sudden change of hair style or volume? And don't hide yourself in your house. I know it's not easy, and it's easy for me to say not to do this or that - I've had A A since I was 10 and I'm 54 this year, so I've worn wigs for a long time and have figured out my own way to circumvent potential landmines and how to deal with this. I've had a long time to finally come to terms with this, and to even finally shave off what little hair I did have, which I just did three months ago. I know my hair will not grow, and this is what I'm left with. But don't let Alopecia rob you of any more joy or experiences than it already has. (((HUGS))) Hope this helps!
