Will a human hair wig even fit a head that has a metallic implant bulging?

I have a Cochlear Implant  (which helps me hear) which looks like this:

It's not permanently stuck to the head, it's just like a magnet. Underneath my scalp is a surgically inserted implant, so the grey round shape shown in the picture stays on my head through that magnetic force.

I know I will go visit a wig shop and physically show it to the owner/hairdresser/whoever and she may give me advice. But I am wondering: will this prevent me from getting a wig at all? So I can try putting the wig on, and then planting the round shape onto my head, but I don't know if the wig cap is too much of a barrier for the cochlear implant to stay on my head.

You may want to ask your doctor as well and see if they can give any advice.

This is not really a medical issue; it's rather cosmetic issue as how the wig cap can fit my head that's irregularly shaped.

understood.  they may have some suggestions though, i doubt you're the first person.  :)

Where there is a will there is a way!.  I'm sure that an experienced wig stylist can come up with something creative to help you out.

FYI...I like the your hair in your profile pic.

What hair? :P The person in that picture is not me. I'm confused :P

Hi

I would think customisation of a wig would be the way to go.  Talk to a wig manufacturer rather than a vendor to see if something can be done.

Hope this helps.

What is a customisation? Please clarify. Thank you.

Hi Lilac

Custominisation means that it isn't a stock wig (one that is made to fit most...but not all).  A customised wig is one that is made just to fit you and your needs, they are often more expensive, but you should be able to get something that works for you and your needs.

I help people in NZ with fully customised wigs not just people with alopecia but those dealing with being scalped (machinery accidents) burns etc.  Their wigs need to be customised to their particular hairloss etc.  I would ring and talk with your local wig shop and tell them of your needs.

Hope this helps.

Hi Lilac, all of kosher wigs can be fit on your hair they are made for jewish women with hair and the cap has enough space for that; I am sure you can find something. you may even go with machin made wigs which would be even better for your hearing and they are much cheaper than hand made.

Would it be possible to create a cap that has borders or perimeters that are NOT equal? For instance, on my left side of my head, the border would line where my hairline ends (above my ear obviously), but on the other side where I have the metallic implant, the border is not above my ear. Instead, it would be above my implant. So a large portion of my hair on the right side would not be covered by the cap.

Or is it even possible to create a hole in the wig cap where I can place my implant?

I'm terrified to go even for a consultation because I'm afraid that when I explain my needs, they may say, "I'm sorry but we can't do it. It's too difficult/impossible/etc." That's what is holding me back from going to any wig shop .
